Owner description: State park and beach area that is located on a peninsula near Bath, Maine.

If you're in the Bath area, this is an excellent beach. It costs for entry ($6/pp non-Maine res, $4/pp Maine res) but is huge, clean, and has bathrooms/showers. We went in July and it felt almost empty in comparison to all the cars parked there. Pack a picnic and spend the day.

Nicest beach I have ever visited, Atlantic or Pacific or UK. Lovely swimming in the Lagoon and walking walking walking

It is not too often you can experience a beach like Popham. It is right where the Kennebec river empties into the Atlantic ocean. Beautiful low and high tides. There are a handful of islands (some with lighthouses on them) right off the coast. No leash laws for the dogs. Only two hours from Boston.

We spent a week at a cottage and went to Popham every day (june 29th through July 5th). Saw it foggy where you couldn't find the ocean and sunny/clear with amazingly warm water for some reason. Clean and perfect, not crowded even if the parking lot is full. The fee is $6/person to get in if you're out of state. Ask about a season pass if you'll be going a lot or if you will have a car full. It is $70/vehicle/season. It was cheaper for us to get the pass than to pay each time we went during the week. We saved about $30 during the week with the pass. It's not posted on their signs so you have to ask.

This state park is one of the finest beaches on the east coast. It is a bargain with adequate parking ... a great place for a quiet "day at the beach"
