“Facinating Confluences Create Maine's Version of the Mississippi's Delta”
Reviewed March 3, 2013

Awesome in scale and power Popham Beach is the creation of river dynamics and ocean influences. The beauty of what you see is matched by the education offered by observing how drastically the landscape is changed by the effects of yearly variation in river flow, precipitation, and ocean storms. As you're filled with the beauty of the sand and vistas, you're also educated about how things in nature are ever changing. A lot ot think about, a lot to enjoy.

“Another cold water Maine beach!”
Reviewed February 7, 2013

This beach is not convenient due to the distance from parking to the actual beach. It was clean, yet the water is cold even in July. The best part about the beach is the sand bars & crabs, and that is the only reason I gave it an average rating as opposed to a poor rating.

“authentic coast”
Reviewed January 31, 2013

It's a peaceful and honest piece of the Maine coast with a nice strip of beach to walk. Especially off season.

If you are a true northerner and can handle the frigid water, this location is a fantastic place to visit.

“Never the same beach twice”
Reviewed January 12, 2013

Popham Beach is an ever changing beach. One day you go and there is a vast expance of dry sand and after a storm the erosion may have carried the beach to a new location, such as a sandbar. Make sure you know when high tide is so you know how high to put your blanket. The beach virtually disapears (along with your things) at high tide. At low tide, you can cross the river, but turn back before it's too late or you may have to swim back. (not a good idea). The beach clean and beautiful. There are two lighthouses and small islands to walk to. Look for sand dollars. Not for the handicapped. The staircase is quite a steep one. A must see, but get there early parking is limited.
