A drive worth taking!!! Coming from Massachusetts was a long haul about 8 1/2 hours, due to 3 children and 3 dogs. Lots of pit stops!! We arrived just before sunset to set up camp and what an amazing view!! The grass was recently mowed which was great and there were bunnies running around the field and seals playing in the harbor. The children were awe struck as well as all the adults. As with any trip there were many last minute things that were forgot but the Irving station at the end of the road was a life saver, with just about anything we could have needed!!! They even have a place in it to get fries or chiken nuggets for the kids!!!! We are already planning our next trip up, there is so much to do and see in the surrounding area!!!! This area is most certainly mother nature at her finest!!! For anyone who has never gone here there are no bathroom facilities so come prepared. Also there is no fresh water in the area so bring lots of water from home for washing and cooking and such.

We went there for the first time in 2006. It was truly an amazing place to be to get away from the hectic lives and crazy schedules that we have. No computers, or the phone ringing off the wall. LOL.. If you are looking for a great place to just get away from everything or everyone, this is definitely the place for you to be. It is a bit of a drive to get there, but once you are there you will realize that its every bit of worth the drive or wait to get there. The water is beautiful. The scenery is relaxing and peaceful, minus the 5 loud and anxious kids that we had.. ( seriously they were good). We camped there for 4 days, granted the field wasn't mowed when we got there, but what the heck. We still pitched 2 tents, bbq'd there, the kids collected rocks and looked for shells. And in the evening we would sit on the rocks and just listen to the waves crash up against the shoreline. This is a place you will love to go back to every now and then just to sit in the serenity of nature and take in every beautiful moment that there is there. We are in fact, trying to plan out another trip very soon..

A tidal surge is an unusual event of greater magnitude, usually caused by storm winds or earthquakes. The reversing Cobscook falls are really just rapids that are caused by large boulders in a narrow passage of water. The boulders, along with the narrow passageway between the shores of the mainland and Falls Island, form a bottleneck, causing a rise in the depth of water on the near side of the falls. BE SAFE! THE WATER is Very COLD> And the Tide water Rises up to 21 feet every 6 hours!! That's 21 feet Up and Down.. Always Always! BE SAFE!! I hope this helps!! P.S. If you Miss the Cemtery Road & keep going down Leighton Pt. Road. Surprise Pembroke Town Beach. Not much Parking. But what a treat. And your on the Other side of Reversing Falls. Be Safe. THE WATER IS COLD> TIDES ARE UP TO 21 feet every 6 hours..

This is an out-of-the-way park. Off the beaten path but worth the drive if you're looking for a place to get away and enjoy mother nature. Few people to disturb you. The first visit my wife and I had to the reversing falls, we sat for quite some time enjoying the harbor seals while they frolicked in the river. Overhead we saw three bald eagles. We didn't want to leave. I dreamt of this place for a long time until we finally had the opportunity to return, 2-3 years later. It was still worth the trip. The power of the water at the change of tides is impressive and the water is clear and pure. I hope to return someday.

I highly recommend a trip to Reversing Falls near Pembroke, ME. It is an incredible phenomenon. At high tide, the scene is a pastoral lake where you can hear harbor seals surfacing in the distance as they release the air from their lungs. The quiet is incredible. You can hear the beating of the wings as ducks fly over your head. All the while you can enjoy the wild blueberries along the coast (provided that you are there in season). After a time, you'll begin to notice movement in the water as the tide begins to go out from right to left. Faster and faster the water begins to swirl until at last it is a raging torrent of a river flowing out to the sea. Seeing a full tidal cycle is a dream of mine. Someday.... I've never seen it at low tide. So as far as the beginning of movement back in for high tide, I can't explain the sight. I have arrived at near high tide to see the raging river moving from left to right. As I said it is simply an amazing sight to behold. This is a part of Cobscook Bay and a few miles outside Pembroke. You do go through the town or at least skirt it as you leave Highway.
