I've always had a great experience at the Cock-Eyed Gull, so much so that I have lost track of the state of other restaurants in Portland. I cant remember the last time I went somewhere else! There are so tried and true best sellers each year but the chef does an excellent job of creating new apps and entrées. Want to experience so local color? Saddle up to the bar to have dinner. This place is hard to beat! During the winter, they have an "all you can eat" haddock fry. What a value. The fish is perfectly cooked, lightly breaded and wonderfully seasoned. Homemade pickles and cole slaw and hand cut fries round out the meal. Just awesome!

very good menu featuring fresh seafood and some mety items as well. We enjoyed lunch (inside) on the cool and overcast afternoon we arrived; dinner with a large group a few days later; and a farewell luncheon on the sunny deck overlooking Peaks Island's harbor and shore on Casco Bay. Try the crab cakes; they're great!

We had been on the island exploring (on golf carts!) when it got late (5:30 at the latest) and cold, and we were hungry. Let's face it, not many places to chose from- so we went into the Cockeyed Gull for an early dinner and a drink.
The waiter was a young guy who seemed like he hated his job, I assume they don't have many applications coming through there very often. He told us there were no seats available, that they were all reserved. He told us (2 girls) to come back in a hour...(meanwhile it's getting colder and darker out & the ferry comes once an hour)
The nice people sitting at the bar offered to scoot and move to make some room. Lucky for us, the bartender was nicer than the other guy.

We stayed extra long because Dean (the bartender) was so friendly and welcoming. He told us all about Peak's Island and how it transforms every season! Everybody seemed to know each other but even as tourists, we didn't feel left out.
I had a salmon appetizer which was just 'okay' for the price, but I'd say the atmosphere made up for the prices.
I'd most likely visit again!

This is right on the ocean and to the left as you walk up the hill. It sits looking over to Portland. It is a small restaurant with a million dollar view. If you are lucky enough try to time it around sunset. The food is very good and the staff are accommodating along with friendly.
