“good food for a reasonable price”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2011

After reading the reviews we were hesitant to come here but decided to give it a try because of the fantastic view of Casco Bay. We were pleasantly surprised. Let me first say that because of the impending hurricane, we were the only ones on the deck, so there wasn't a problem with service! Their fried clams were excellent, so was the lobster. Only two negatives: My Margarita tasted watered down--like they forgot the tequila, and they were out of salmon--it was 6:30 and we were the only ones in the place! The lack of salmon wasn't a big deal because the person ordered lobster which she said was excellentl I don't know how the service is on a busy night, but we had a great time and would go back again.

“Nice view, terrible food.”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 13, 2011

We had lunch at this restaurant in an effort to enjoy a beautiful summer day. We are locals and familiar with Peaks Island and the best Maine has to offer. The food we were served was terrible. The "side salad" was drenched in salad dressing and was priced at $6 for a measly cup of greens. One of the specials of the days was lobster chowder which was luke warm at best. Really a disgrace. The lemonade was watered down and the desserts were intolerable. The "lava" cakes were terrible. More like ring dings they tried to warm up AND according to the waitress the chef "didn't microwave them enough as they were melted in the middle." The blackberry cobbler I ate tasted like jam and flour...I left it on the table. We mentioned our issues to the waitress and she was not apologetic and gave us our check. Do yourself a favor, pack a picnic lunch or grab a sandwich at a local store in Portland before heading out to Peak's Island.

We stopped in for a drink and a quick, small meal. We asked the waitress if they had a side salad or anything and she told us that they did. We ordered two side salads. The salads were tiny, but we just figured they would charge us $2 or $3 for them. When we got the bill, it turns out that they charged us $5.50 each for the smallest side salads we have ever seen. To make matters worse, half of the lettuce was literally rotten. The green peppers had a disgusting slime all over them. The drinks were watered down and not a good value, either.

“Food Was OK...but the credit card issue was disconcerting...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 11, 2010

There were 9 of us having lunch on Peaks Island at the Peaks Island House...we sat on the deck overlooking the small harbor...the view was truly beautiful. Our lunches, which consisted of fish sandwiches, salads, crabcakes, calamari, and burgers were just OK...nothing special, but the view and the young waitress (it was very crowded) made up for what the food was lacking. But here is where we vowed never to return again (we will return to Peaks, but will dine elsewhere)...Of course a percentage was added to the check because we were such a large party...they added 20%, which was still OK with us...obviously we didn't leave any additional tip. When we got back to Portland that evening and checked our account online...we found that the restaurant had added another $35 to the check on the tip line (which was obviously left empty by us). We were quite distressed and called the restaurant...they remembered us and said that this was a common thing that the bank does--and that the money would be back in our account in a few days...so we checked with the bank and they denied this policy, stating that they never debit anything that the client has not signed for. Needless to say, we were upset. We lost all faith in the owners/managers of this establishment and will never return. We have now learned to check our balance after dining out in a large group...In fact that very evening were in Camp Ellis for dinner and the standard 18% was added to the bill and we were totally fine with that. Peaks Island House should be ashamed of themselves for trying to get more money out of tourists who might not check their accounts and who might never return to Peaks Island....As I said, we will return, but not to this place...the Peaks Island Inn, which is open year round, looked amazing and we can't wait to head there for a Saturday evening..

“Good lunch, great view.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 5, 2010

The deck of the Peaks Island House is the place for a nice lunch while overlooking Casco Bay. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. My parents have stayed overnight there too a few times and love the place. It's a 1 minute walk from the ferry and take your time eating there. You won't want to leave the view too soon!

Thank ricka..
