How can a transportation museum in the little area of Downeast have such a great collection of old airplanes, and cars? And they all fly and run. An experience for the whole family.

My husband and I visited the Owl's Head Transportation Museum one Sunday in January. We have no particular interest in transportation but read the reviews for the museum and thought it might be a fun stop during our weekend getaway to the area (it was also very cold so we were looking for an indoor attraction open in the off-season). We were so impressed by this museum! We spent several hours looking at all of the cars, planes, and everything in between. The museum space is huge and the collections are fascinating. It is also impressive that the museum is supported almost entirely by volunteers. We actually had the whole museum to ourselves, which we thought was quite a shame because it was such a neat place. We can only imagine that it's even more fascinating on days when there are special events. This museum seems likely to be enjoyable for visitors of all ages and interest levels.

My husband is an antique car enthusiast, so no visit to Rockland goes by without an Owls Head Transportation visit. He spends almost the entire day there! I've been there with him, and am amazed at all of the historical items. I also brought my daughter, and she got quite a history lesson! Very much recommend a visit!

My husband is a pilot and we are both aviation enthusiasts, so immediately planned a visit here when we saw that it was in the area. The nice thing is that because it covers so many forms of transportation, people in a mixed family group can have different interests and still all enjoy themselves exploring.
There are even some restored vehicles for sale as part of the fund-raining for the museum.
The volunteers do a great job of welcoming you in and explaining how to navigate the displays!

The Transportation Museum has a huge variety of vehicles from aircraft to cars and so much more! The kids love to learn about "the way things used to be". The education director Ethan Yankura always does such wonderful activities over the holidays and summer breaks for the children-he is super knowledgeable about everything at the museum- he should be the director!
