Old Orchard Beach: Grand Beach Inn
Date: September 14, 2006
Reviewer: A TripAdvisor Member, Boston, MA
We recently stayed at The Grand Beach Inn for a small family reunion with members traveling from California, Michigan and the Boston area. Our group rented 3 rooms, all of which were meticulously clean, quite comfortable and fully equipped with kitchenettes. The Inn has about 130 units, pool area, barbecue grills for guests' use, small restaurant and is situated across the street from the beach. It is within walking distance to the pier and attractions area, but far enough away so that the atmosphere is quiet and relaxed.
Onsite management is attentive, friendly and service oriented. The grounds are well maintained and beautifully landscaped. During our stay, there was a nice mix of families and adults which reflects the broad based appeal of the property.
Rates were reasonable and overall, a very good value for the area.

We recently went to the Grand Beach Inn and made reservations ahead of time without knowing what this hotel was like. We were a little nervouse about doing that but to our surprise the place was a nice place to stay. I disagree with many of the other reviews. Our room was nice and clean. The only thing that was wrong was that the refriegerator was broken; which didn't really matter as we really didn't plan to use it. They atmosphere at tht hotel is beautiful and have a very nice heated pool and its location was perfect. Just a short walk across the street to the beach. And the beach was fine. I didn't see any rocks. As another reviewer mentioned. Its actually a good location on the beach as its not in the real busy area. It is a very quiet hotel and YES there is a train track in the back of the hotel but you can't even hear it at night. They have a cafe there where you can get breakfast or lunch and the food was great and the prices were very resonable. Overall we love this place and are planning to come back to the Grand Beach for a weeks vacation soon. If you love the beach you'll like this nice hotel.

The hotel was nice. It was clean, nice kitchenette area and clean bathroom. The room & bathroom could use updating all around. The linens on the bed did not LOOK super clean but they smelled clean. Heat was good (it was 20 degrees the evening of our stay so heat was good!). The staff was friendly but not overly friendly (didn't offer any information about free coffee the next morning, or Sunday papers on the house). It was a good price so I didn't expect luxury and neither should you. However, it's a nice place at a good price and I'm sure the summer season offers even more.

The hotel is in a great location, just across the road from the beach. We had a corner suite which was very spacious, but which overlooked the railway line (sleep interrupted by loud trains passing) and the back yard/general dumping site for the hotel which wasn't a pretty sight and was also noisy early in the morning.

The hotel seems rather run down and the passageways and room smelt damp and dirty. Our room could have been cleaner eg the cooker and dishwasher were dirty so we were rather disappointed overall with the place.

Whilst daily maid service was good, our linen wasn't changed at all during our ten day spell.

The outdoor pool was good, and was kept at a great temperature. It was really helpful to borrow the great selection of beach chairs, sun umbrellas, boogie boards etc that were available for free loan.

The front desk folks were friendly and helpful.

In summary I suppose it all depends on your expectations, but location aside, the place was rather disappointing, but didn't spoil a great vacation in a lovely place.

We stayed in a Mate's Cabin adjacent to the property and it was very disappointing. There were cobwebs all along the ceilings; mirrors and windows were filty; window blinds fell off the window when I opened the window; and the TV was at least 25 years old and everything looked green. It was stifling hot in the cabin as the air conditioner couldn't cool it off. It was terrible. I would not recommend this property.

Having not been to Old Orchard Beach in over 15 years --- did not have a clue as to where to stay!!!

We picked the Grand Beach ---it was my Dad's 70th birthday present and we had a grand time!!!

Had flowers/balloons and the beverage of his choice waiting in the Grand Suite and he was delighted!!!

The living room/Kitchen/Separate bedroom was more room then you could ask for!!! Clean/Bright --- plenty of towels!!! The staff was very gracious.

We enjoyed breakfast and afternoon cocktails right on the premises.

The beach across the street was beautiful.

Little ways from the strip (I enjoyed the walk) -- and my kids hopped a trolly--- no issue driving my dad!

Pool was a little on the cool side -- as the heater was not working up to par --- however fixed before we left.

No complaints --- Looks like we will have another annual vacation place!!!!

We loved this hotel. It has a great outside heated pool in the center, which the kids loved, along with a location away from the cramped and noisy downtown area. The beach across the street is pristine. We highly recommend this. I read the other review, and cant believe it was the same place, because our room was clean, bright, and comfortable.
