Alouette Beach Resort
Ranked #21 of 44 Hotels in Old Orchard Beach
Reviewed December 31, 2013

Oh, my! On the one hand, very few OOB motels stay open during the winter, and I had tried 2 lodgings before this one, both of which were unstaffed in spite of having neon vacancy signs on. Alouette cost me more than it should have -- almost $90 for one night, a Sunday, during the off-season. The place was nearly empty, except for a couple of the waterfront units. The owner could have placed me in one of the middle rooms (it is a multi-building property), which would have been quiet in the early morning. Instead, he placed me up front in a side building adjacent to where he and the cook park when they arrive at 7 AM; the unit was also right next door to some type of storage bin, and the banging around in there during early morning hours was nearly deafening. Besides this, I could hear all the loudly delivered small talk and greetings, etc, when I would rather have savored some peace and quiet. The night before, the owner had kept me waiting for 15 minutes or longer in the cold, December dark. But did he extend a discount or an upgrade to me? No, he most ungenerously did not. About an hour after checking in, I discovered that the Wi-Fi didn't work. Password was accurate, yet the signal was caught on something. I called the owner to suggest that the router be reset, which involves pushing a button. The man said he wasn't going to return to the property to do that, and he hung up on me!!! This was the worst, most offensively bad customer service I've received in many a moon, yet it typifies what I've come to expect from Maine. Complimentary pancake and egg breakfast was small yet good. The cook, who doubles as waiter, has a vastly better personality than his boss.

The units are quality above what you usually have at a beach resort. The staff is very friendly and want to please. The restaurant serves good food so you don't have to leave the beach and beautiful view to eat. Our unit had a kitchenette that was well-stocked with dishes and cooking utensils. We had free Wi-Fi in our 1-bedroom unit which worked very well for us. The unit was very clean and the cleaning staff considerate of your needs. Will certainly stay here again.

Room Tip: We prefer a 1-bedroom as we have different sleep hours. This was perfect for us. The balcony offere...

Our room was large, clean & comfortable & our balcony had a lovely view of the beach below & out to sea.
Decor was a bit dated but the owner told us of his ongoing updating plans & our block was next in line apparently.
All the staff were extremely friendly & helpful and the breakfast in the on-site cafe was excellent
and the indoor swimming pool wasn't the warmest but welcoming nonetheless on a wet day.
Free access to a computer, printer & internet in the foyer was another nice touch.
Highly recommended for its facilities, position & value.

Room Tip: If you are likely to self-cater, consider the brand new kitchenette apartments. They were not quite...

We had a room in the new building. The room was very accommodating. The view to the ocean was one of the best we ever had. Breakfast at the cafe was good as well as the coffee. Looking to go back there next year with the rest of the family for our summer vacation.

Room Tip: Ocean front room in the new building.

A perfect place to meet for 2 couples wanting just a place to visit. Off Season, so quiet. We had 2 adjoining rooms on the beach. The rooms were new, clean, well supplied. (A grab bar in the shower would be very helpful since we were all in our 80's.) The view was perfect and the walk along the beach inviting.
The Alouette is within easy an easy walk to the 'main' street. The breakfast was adequate, if a bit sweet. The service excellent. We would go again.

Room Tip: We were 4 octogenarians, but in fairly good condition. We had 2 rooms on the beach and just "o...

We were in the new building and the rooms were excellent. Breakfast in the small cafe was very good and the staff was very helpful in discussing local tourist sites and directions. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

Room Tip: Try the new building.

Well, this must have been the only room left on the coast between Newburyport and Portland so we paid $200 for it. They put us in a separate place they run too. The place is very basic and poorly built, one can hear basically everything, it is loud at night and in the morning since it is on a railroad and a road with bikers passing by all the time.
Still the location on the beach is good. I would consider a better organised place and probably pay less.
nice bilingual service.

Room Tip: avoid rooms on the street: loud
