We stayed here for the second time in October. What a wonderful feeling to return to a place so tranquil, elegant, friendly, and accomodating. It is run by a small staff which has been cross-trained in all fields. How refreshing to have someone greet you with your name and be concerned that all of your needs are met instead of asking what room you are in - they know. Afternoon tea is the best with the homemade goodies to go with it. Breakfast is made-to-order and served with an appealing look as well as being delicious. Convenient to all locations including the Marginal Way, Perkins Cove, the center of town, and wonderful restaurants. The staff is always willing to answer any questions and make suggestions if asked. When we stayed in August and decided to go to the beach, they even gave us a small beach bag with water and a snack. Each room is decorated in a different theme - not your run-of-the-mill-all-alike rooms here. Just extremely charming rooms to comfort you during your stay. We will definitely be back - hopefully many times.

We spent 4 days and nights in Ogunquit, Maine at the Hartwell Inn. Our room and most of the areas are furnished in antiques and are VERY clean and well decorated. Every afternoon, you are treated to ice tea and fresh fruit and cheese and the very best fresh baked cookies. For breakfast, you have a choice of two or three different items along with fresh fruit, juices and coffee or tea. There is coffee waiting along with muffins for early risers. This inn has a wonderful secret-it's professional and helpful staff. Shannon and her Mother were delightful, helpful with information and you felt very welcome at their inn. Shannon typed out some of her cookie recipes for me before we left. We will be back again.

Arriving by motorcycle, already later into the evening than we had hoped, manager extraordinaire Carrie Peterson returned from her home to this Bed and Breakfast to help two wayward travelers find solace after a long day of riding. We planned our trip around having no plans, which meant we had no reservations, destinations or strings of any kind holding us back or helping us along. The inn was pristine, and the Polly Reed room was more than we could have hoped for. It boasted a private porch overlooking a beautiful backyard garden and a bathroom the size of some bedrooms with both shower and two person jacuzzi hot tub. We walked one NYC block to a nice 5 star french bistro for dinner and briefly toured the inn the following morning before an absolutely fantastic breakfast. We left determined to make the most of our motorcycle adventure, touring the coast slowly north, but knowing we had to be back in the Big Apple for work in the not-too-distant future. We remembered Carrie's kindness and the inn as we continued, and decided we had to come back to experience more of Ogunquit. Three days later we found Carrie outside as we pulled into the Hartwell House, this time early enough in the day to enjoy more of the town. Instead of going out to dinner that night, we bought some cheeses and smoked meats which we had with crackers in the inn's drawing room before a nice fire. Our personal innkeeper provided glassware, plates and ice bucket for the wine. We then skipped out to opening night at the playhouse to see "All Shook Up", for which Carrie had found us tickets. Our experience in Maine was bettered by Carrie Peterson and The Hartwell House. We'll definitely be back, and you can be sure we'll call ahead and reserve "our" room.

1. I wasn't e-mailed my confirmation.
2. Called the morning of arrival and was told "oops, we forgot, but you're all set"
3. Arrived and the employees didn't know what rooms we had booked.
4. Was told that coffee is available at 7:30 am, and breakfast is served at 8:30. We had plans in the morning so those times were fine. Coffee was served at 7:30, and we were in our seats for breakfast at 8:15. At around 9 we were told that the waffle maker wasn't working, so could we order something else. We were finally served breakfast at 9:30.
5. Second morning, the cleaning lady started setting the tables because the lady that should be there to serve breakfast was having child care issues.

Location of B&B couldn't be better. Room was fine. There were a lot of weeds, torn screens, dirty carpet......things that tell me the owner isn't checking in as often as he/she should be. Staff was friendly but not getting it done. This would be a "NO" in the "would you return?" column. I have no photos to add, because I didn't feel anything was pretty enough to want to remember.

We just returned from an extended weekend at the Hartwell House in Ogunquit. We stayed in the Hartwell House II, located right across the street from the main house, and could not have been more pleased. The room was large, impeccably clean and the staff was friendly. Breakfast was very good, with a different menu each morning. The Inn is located very close to the Marginal Way and Perkins Cove. It's about a 5-10 minute walk into the center of town, just out of the bustling area, which is preferable if you're looking for a relaxing time. I'd absolutely stay there again, and when you get there, you must enjoy the almond cookies at tea time - they're amazing!

The Inn was spotless - the staff was courteous and kind - the breakfast in the morning was amazing!

We stayed in the Polly Reed Room which had more pillows on the bed than anything I've ever seen! Nonetheless, the bathroom was huge, the balcony provided an amazing view of the landscaped and picturesque back yard.

It is right next to a parking lot that only costs $10 and is right at the beginning of Perkins Cove. 10 minute walk to downtown. - 5 minute walk to the beginning of the Marginal Way.

Plan on returning because for the money - the Hartwell House is worth spoiling yourself!

We selected the Hartwell House based on location and Trip Advisor's reviews. The location is perfect for parking the car and walking everywhere for restaurants and shopping and sightseeing. Our room was the Martin Van Buren suite is a building across the street. We had a beautiful bedroom, a living room and a kitchenette. A back slider opened on a outside sitting area. Just a nice quiet spot away from the main inn.
A short walk to Perkin's Cove and the Marginal Way made it very handy. Many good restaurants all around the area all easily walkable. Their breakfast was a highlight and something to look forward toward each morning. The staff is very helpful and seem to enjoy their work
If you are going to Ogunquit I recomment the Hartwell House Inn.
