“Pizza and gelato -- Italian heaven”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

We ate here on a Monday night in mid-June, on a cool night. Most of the seating is outdoors, some under heaters. There are a few indoor tables, which is where we sat. We shared a thin-crust 4-cheese pizza, followed by pink grapefruit sorbetto and strawberry gelato, and Italian coffee. This is a much better way to go than Papa John's!

“This is New England not Italy”
Reviewed June 12, 2013

Why do people try to recreate other places when they are in such a beautiful spot. I come to Maine for Maine. These people are trying to make you feel like you are in Italy. If I want to go to Italy, I'll go to Italy. The food was okay, but nothing out of the ordinary.

“We almost actually licked our plates!”
Reviewed June 10, 2013

In Ogunquit with my family for my birthday. We decided to go to Cafe Prego because it didn't look too stuffy and formal. Everyone on the staff was delightful and very welcoming. The owner went to every table to say hello and tell people that he owned this place and 5-0 (the more upscale) place next door. He encouraged people to take their time and enjoy--which is so rare these days when everyone is in such a rush. Our waiter was going into grad school at Tufts in the fall and he was awesome! Fast and friendly service, very accommodating. We all had pasta--chicken parm and pasta for the guys and pasta with marinara for the girls--everything was well prepared and the sauce was just right (not overpowering and super garlicky like some homemade marinaras tend to be). We sat outside where you can people watch and see down to the ocean. It was my birthday but we didn't mention it because I really didn't want to be the center of attention. We had a cake back at our hotel, so we didn't order dessert--but the couple beside us shared a piece of lemon pie that they were raving about. Cafe Prego is the perfect place to stop while you're in lovely Ogunquit. Lovely people to match a lovely place. (We also liked that they had a young man playing the piano all evening, he was very accomplished! Nice touch!) Bravo Prego!!!

“Now with an expanded menu”
Reviewed June 5, 2013

Wow, Caffe Prego is now even better. New on the menu: baked Italian sandwiches. Try the meatball, one of the owner's mother's recipe. Also some new entrees - try the haddock piccata - wonderful. And don't forget dessert - a vast selection of pastries and gelatos (house-made).
