“A wonderful experience!”
Reviewed August 7, 2013

We did not realize until we arrived that the location of the inn was so convenient. The beach, town shops and restaurants, Marginal Way, and Perkins Cove, were all easily accessible and within walking distance. I had not been to Ogunquit for many years, and it was the first time my husband and I visited this charming seaside town together. Our room in the main inn was on the 4th floor with an ocean view - it was immaculate, tastefully decorated and very comfortable. The shower was glass enclosed and newly tiled, and the entire bathroom was spacious. With the windows open at night, we could hear the surf and it was quiet considering it's proximity to the hotel next door. We enjoyed the pool and hot tub during our stay. The continental breakfast was healthy and a variety of choices were offered. We ate breakfast on the lovely porch decorated with beautiful hanging plants. Lemon flavored water, coffee and tea were available all day which was a nice touch. From the initial contact when I booked the room, upon our arrival and during our stay, the service was excellent and we felt welcomed. Tom and Kris were very helpful and went out of their way to ensure that our stay was pleasant. On the morning we checked out, we met the owner in the hallway and he asked us about our experience. He was very pleasant as well. It was a great discovery and we will definitely return!

Room Tip: Choose a higher floor in the main inn

On behalf of the staff here at the Colonial Inn, we would like to thank you for your wonderful comments. The location of our inn has proved to be one of its most desired features. Guests frequently mention that they did not have to think about their car after check-in. Both Kris and Tom will be thrilled to hear that they made your stay that much more enjoyable. Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and we look forward to having you stay with us again!

We stayed at the Colonial Inn for 3 nights, July 30th to Aug 2nd. From the moment we arrived until we left the Inn and the Staff exceeded our expectations. The atmosphere is one of a relaxed, comfortable and upscale country Inn. As noted by other reviewers the Inn was recently renovated and they have done an excellent job of keeping all the charm.

The location is excellent particularily since parking in the area is very limited. You can park and forget the car. It is a 5 minute walk to shops or restaurants and 10 minutes to beach or Perkins Cove. if you wish not to walk or want to go further, the trolley stop is right outside the inn. One highlight for us was coming back from the beach in the afternoon, changing and sitting on the large spacious verandah and having a glass of wine while chilling before proceeding to supper. The Inn while not having a formal bar sells wine and beer at very reasonable prices. The verandah has ample very comfortable seating and has hanging flowers all along which combines to provide a very peaceful relaxing atmosphere.

We had a king room on second floor of the main Inn at the front (201). The room was spacious, the bed excellent, a nice sized bathroom and shower. The room was very clean (as was the entire Inn) and decor was very nice.

All the staff we encountered were very pleasant, helpful with information or reservations. The very noticeable thing about the staff compared to many places we have stayed is that everyone would make an effort to greet or recognize us which made us feel valued guests.

We found that being full summer season , the location and quality the price was very reasonable. This was our first trip to Maine and we will be looking to return. We have had the opportunity to stay at many places in Canada, U.S. and Europe .......the Colonial Inn has jumped to one of the ones at the top of our list.

It was our first visit to Ogunquit so we did not know what to expect, especially since we booked just a few days before our trip during high season. We were worried that we would get slim pickings but were pleasantly surprised to find a beautiful lobby, tastefully and recently renovated.
There is coffee and lemon water available all day long. The wraparound porch also made for a lovely place to sit and work or enjoy the continental breakfast free to guests, made even prettier (and more private) by the enormous buckets of flowers hanging all around..
As far as the room itself: we had a room with two queen beds since our teenaged daughter was traveling with us. The room was not in the main house, but in one of the outer buildings. which gave it a motel-y feel, but the room itself was large, and outfitted with two comfortable, new and well dressed beds, a flat screen TV and small refrigerator.

Outside were several picnic tables, under trees, which gave us a great spot to enjoy a picnic.
The staff was courteous and helpful, and I believe it was one of the owners that came around one morning to make sure we were enjoying our stay. I would definitely recommend this inn.
The location also was great; far enough away from town to be peaceful, but close enough to walk either into town or Perkins Cove, via Shore Rd, or Marginal Way, which is along the coast and breathtakingly beautiful.

After doing some research on Ogunquit hotels, I came across the Colonial Inn. Very close to the beach and Perkins Cove. We walked to the beach one morning...took about 13 mins. as it was the week of 7/15 when the temps were in the 90's, even in Maine!! The trolley stops in front and is only 3 stops from the beach...well worth the $1.50 to ride it. They have completed renovated the property and the place looks gorgeous! The lobby area could be your living room, with comfy couches and chairs in various areas of the huge room. complete with piano for anyone wishing to play. Our room was in the main house and it had an ocean view. The King sized bed was sooo comfortable as were the 2 chairs by the windows. The Bathroom was a decent size with a pretty large shower. Full size closet and dresser. Continental breakfast was included. They had cold and hot cereals, yogurt, bagels, toast, English muffins and mini muffins as well as hard boiled eggs. Coffee was available all day long in the lobby. You could eat in the breakfast room, which was small, or take your tray outside on the porch or even sit in the lobby area. The staff is very friendly and accommodating. Our room type did not come with a mini refrigerator, but when I asked for one it was in my room by that evening.

We're beach people for the most part, so we didn't use the pool which was not very large.

Room Tip: I believe some of the quest houses behind the main hotel have balconies if you enjoy sitting outside...

Your comments have made the entire staff here at the Colonial Inn very happy. I couldn’t agree more about the greatness of the trolley. It is a wonderful feature of the city and unfortunately not enough people take advantage of it. You are correct about the balconies out back. Our east wing rooms contain 2 queen size beds and have either a private porch or a private balcony. Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave this amazing comment and we hope that you will stay with us again in the future.

We booked at the last minute and had a 3rd floor ocean view room with a Queen bed. The inn is totally renovated, with a fresh clean appearance. The room is very nice, clean, up-to-date, with luxurious linens, nice towels, and nice amenities. The staff is extremely accommodating. It was raining and the owner offered to store our road bikes in a shed out of the rain. We asked about road bike rides and the staff tried to find us one on the internet. (We ended up with a great 56 mile ride from mapmyride.com.) Request for more towels or ice were handled without a problem.

The location is great. You can walk to the beach or along the marginal way to Perkins Cove. The center of town is a 5-10 minute walk. We walked to the Ogunquit Playhouse for a fun evening. I have not surveyed the high season prices in Ogunquit, but I suspect the fairly room rate is in keeping with competitive inns.

Room Tip: An ocean view room, even though the ocean is a bit away, is nice.

Dan, Thank you for taking the time to comment about your stay. I am glad that the bike ride was awesome. Was that the one that went into Portsmouth, NH? I am also pleased that you were happy with the location of The Colonial Inn, and agree about the walkability of the town/area. The Ogunquit Playhouse is currently showing Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat starring Clay Aiken which I am excited to see next week. Once again thank you for your comments and hopefully next time you are in the area you will stay with us again.

Just enjoyed two nights at the newly renovated Colonial Inn in Ogunquit. We stayed in the main inn. The rooms are nice and beds very comfortable. The breakfast is good and the staff are great. The inn is still lacking a few small things, I.e., pool area fence needs to be replaced or painted, need a few new patio tables, chairs, and umbrellas (they have some very nice lounge chairs at the pool), gas grill for guests, refrigerators in the rooms in the main building' and the outside of the east wing building could use some more updating. Overall great place and we definitely will be going back!!

Maureen, Thank you for your comments and suggestions. We are thrilled that you enjoyed your stay and that the staff was excellent. We feel that a knowledgeable and helpful staff can make all the difference between a great stay and a crummy one. As for your suggestions, we agree with every one of them. We are in the process of getting more pool/yard furniture and will tackle some of the other improvements over this off-season. Once again, thank you for taking the time to leave this comment and we look forward to having you back.

If you are looking for a kid friendly relaxing vacation, The Colonial inn was the perfect spot. We came here with friends, the pool was always available and other customers as well the staff were very friendly. we did not use the car the whole trip as the beach, stores and other walks are right down the road. I am not a picky person so the sometimes "unavailable Wifi or Cable TV" is not a big deal. You are on vacation...remember. The kids were crying when we left. Great spot.

Room Tip: Pick 501 if it is available.

We are so glad that you and your kids enjoyed your vacation. One of our goals here at The Colonial Inn is to be a family friendly hotel. Room 501, which is one of our guest house suits, has 1 king size bed, two twin beds (in a separate room), a pull out couch, and a full kitchen. We also have rooms in our East Wing that have two queen size beds (4 person max) or 2 queens size beds and a pull out couch (5 max). Once again thank you for your comment and we hope that you will stay with us again soon.
