“Good food but watch your bill”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2007

We just went to eat dinner there last weekend.

Very nice quaint location a bit dark room but nicely decorated.
I reserved ahead and found the hostess voice a little bit cold even if I spoke french.
When we arrived, the hostess brought us to our table but she was not too friendly but it was ok.

Service from the waiter ,and the food were excellent

Just when we received the bill, there was an overcharged on 2 items. I can understand that errors can be made, the waiter was very nice about it and apologised greatly. But the complaint is that, " when the hostess brought the corrected bill she almost pitched the slip on the table and said here is the corrected error in a rude manner. I was shocked of her attitude.
I think that in a small privately owned restaurant, the first impression, you have is how your are received . This spoiled our visit a bit

“We Love This Restaurant”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 27, 2007

This is one of our favorite restaurants - wonderful atmosphere, great menu selections ( 3 different fixed price options, plus regular ala carte menu), delicious bistro style food. While not inexpensive, price is reasonable for quality of food. We ordered a fixed price menu (a bargain at $39), the appetizer was terrific: mussels in a light curry sauce -- it is not a combo that I would have made, but it was wonderful. Entree was monkfish - simply prepared but delicious. Dessert was a chocolate torte with raspberry sorbert - very good. Service was smooth and unobtrusive. It is located just before Perkins Cove, and before the most crowded area -- and it has it's own parking, a real plus in Perkins Cove where parking is impossible. Would highly recommend, but make reservations, esp if going on a weekend.

“Another vote for Perfection”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2007

We go to Ogunquit three or four times every summer and 98 is the first reservation we make. Everything is always perfect---the food is marvelous and varied, the waitstaff professional without being stuffy and the dining room itself is warm and well decorated.

We used to go to Arrows on a regular basis and still think everyone should go there once. But frankly, their prices have become exorbitant and we beleive the quality of the meals at 98 are on a par.

This is not fast dining and it's probably not a place for kids (at least tiny ones) but it is fine dining and well worth it.

“Never fails to impress”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 1, 2007

After disappointing experiences at both Arrows and MC, it was sheer bliss to dine at 98 Provence. They pull off both exceptional, fresh food and a relaxing, unassuming atmosphere--all topped off with knowledgable but friendly staff. Bonus: reasonable prices.

We've been dining here on and off for 3 yrs and the experience is always exceptional. In our all-time Top 10 of restaurants.

“perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2006

We had dinner for two at 98 Provence as soon as we got into town and checked into our hotel after 9 hours of driving in rain and traffic. We had reservations (recommended) and were seated quickly and at a nice and cozy little table. The interior is beautiful, candlelit, French countryside decor, accented with Maine character. It seemd a little noisy at first, but we may have just been sensitive after a long day's drive, and it wasn't long before we settled in and were treated to a relaxing experience.

Our waitress was so friendly and was very comfortable talking about the food and the wine, not phony at all. She guided us through the menu and her thoughts on the different dishes seemed honest and knowlegeable. We started with the sea scallops with a ginger cream and tomato confit, which my boyfriend swooned over. They were tender and the sauce was amazing. We split that and the bibb lettuce salad with mustard and fine herbs, fresh and tasty.

After much debate over a choice of an entree (we wanted to try everything!) we decided on the veal mignon in applewood smoked bacon with wild mushrooms for me, and lamb rib chops with a vegetable, parmesan and pistou fricassée for him. I can't say enough about how well these dishes were prepared, and the presention was just beautiful. Our waitress chose a lovely red Sancerre for us that was unique, modestly priced and complimented our entrees perfectly.

For dessert we had a frozen chocolate and cherry "pate", refreshing and sinfully good. Even the espresso was done right.

We are not the most discriminating diners you'll meet, but living in NYC, it's not easy to bowl us over, and we fell in love with 98 Provence. Everything from the service to the food to the atmosphere left us so satisfied and relaxed that I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant. The bill was about $150 for two people before tip and worth it.
