The Sparhawk is situated on a prime location in Ogunquit. Every room has a balcony facing the ocean. When you first arrive there is always a warm and friendly welcome waiting for you. If you need help they are more than happy to assist you. The rooms are neat and clean. There is a wonderful buffet breakfast served each morning. There are tennis courts, swimming pool and a hot tub on site. If you stay there on the fourth of July the Ogunquit fireworks are set off right in front of your balcony. Magnificent sight. It doesn't get any better then this.

I arrived in Ogunquit sans reservations on a Sunday afternoon (knowing that most every hotel had availability, per Kayak search). I wanted to go directly to properties to determine their condition/vibe/location in person. After visiting several hotels in the main part of town (I wanted to walk to restaurants/bars, see the ocean from my room, and needed a heated pool), I settled on the Sparhawk. It's a clean, well located hotel with a nice pool (the Maine ocean is just too cold for the southern raised), and a friendly front desk staff. The room was nice (nothing special, but spacious), quiet, and comfortable. I enjoyed my two nights at the Sparkhawk and would stay there again.

We have spent a week at the Sparhawk for 15 summers and it has always been excellent. The rooms in the main motel overlook the ocean. At night the sound of the waves is soothing and sleep-inducing. The view also includes the town beach - far enough away that it is not noisy. The rooms have always been very clean and have been updated at least twice since we have been going there. The staff is helpful and friendly. One of the Sparhawk's best assets is the location. It is a short stroll to the center of town and to shops and good restaurants, or a longer walk along the ocean on the Marginal Way to Perkins Cove. The beach is within walking distance and the trolley goes past on the street. The gardens on the grounds are beautiful. Hope to continue to return for many more years.

As soon as we arrived we felt at home. The reception staff is warm and friendly. The room we had (#38) was perfect for us. The views from the balcony just outstanding. The location is sensational and with easy walking distance via sidewalk to Perkins Cove or Main street or Ogunquit beach. The Marginal Way is at your doorstep. We enjoyed walking into Perkins Cove via the sidewalk and returning via Marginal Way.
Some reviews complain about the outdated furnishings, which I don't understand. The decor is a traditional one and the cherry furnishings complement it well. It did not bother us in the least. The rooms are quite large, the clubs chairs swivel and the beds were very comfy. The only thing I would change are the bath towels, they are in need of replacement.
Overall the Sparhawk in meticulously maintained. Everything has fresh paint, the grounds are perfectly maintained, the tennis courts and pool are inviting. There are tables with umbrellas and chaises doting the lawns. We had our breakfast one morning at an outdoor table and enjoyed "people" watching. They do have a continental breakfast every morning which looked nice but we enjoyed going out to breakfast however we did have their complimentary coffee every morning on on oceanfront balcony. Doesn't get any better than this.
We are looking forward to our return visit in October and will continue returning again and again.

Room Tip: We liked the top level oceanfront

My husband and I stayed for two nights in May of 2012, just a few days before Memorial Day weekend. We had a motel style room, with a balcony looking out onto the beach. The king-sized bed was comfortable, and the room was quite large. The location, at one end of the Marginal Way, really couldn't be beat. The resort had several amenties, like tennis courts and a pool, that we didn't take advantage of in our short stay. There was also a complimentary breakfast, but we didn't try it.

This May was our 4th stay. The convenience of being at the north end of the Marginal Way and close to the village centre is great. We stay at the ocean front Ireland House experiencing spectacular views. The lawns and gardens (which receive immaculate tending) attract many viewers and camera enthusiasts who pass by on the Marginal Way.
The rooms are spacious with 2 flat screened TVs (sitting area and bedroom); comfort and cleanliness is superb.
A wonderful continental breakfast is complimentary; included are a great variety of quality offerings (unlike many places that present only sugary muffins and other cheap junk foods).
We happily anticipate our return on Labour Day weekend.

This is our second time staying at the Sparhawk. We had a room in the Jacobs House (#68) up on the 3rd floor. Very nice room and view. Jacuzzi tub not working and no one came to fix it after I let housekeeping know about it. There is a nice continental breakfast every morning. The staff are very friendly. The grounds are so pretty and you cannot beat the location right on the Marginal Way. Last year we stayed in the Barbara Dean House which we really loved.
