“Perfect Boston Get-away”
Reviewed October 21, 2013

My boyfriend and I had a great time at The Black Boar Inn. The room was cozy, huge, and impeccably clean! The history of the Inn added greatly its charm. Ogunquit is a fun town to relax in. It offers cute boutiques and gorgeous Atlantic views. The location of the Inn couldn't be better. Aside from being in the heart of the town, it's easy to get to from Boston. We were able to spend time in Ogunquit and add a day trip from the Inn to Portland without feeling like we spent our whole weekend away in the car. The best part of The Black Boar Inn, though, is the hospitality of Dwain and John. Without intruding, they made sure we had all of our needs met - providing an above-and-beyond breakfast and great conversation. We hope to be able to visit the Inn again sometime soon!

We so enjoyed getting to know you two while you were here and the conversations we had really made our day. More folks from your neck of the woods are discovering Ogunquit and its amazing natural beauty. Being only a short 1.5 hours away from Boston, we hope you will consider joining us again in the coming months. This locale is amazing at any time during the year.

My husband and I stayed at the Black Boar Inn, traveling up the coast of Maine and it was truly amazing. Our stay there was on of our most cherished ones on our trip.
The Inn itself is a restored historic home/Inn with multiple fireplaces. The location of the Inn is directly on Main Street allowing an easy stroll to bars, restaurants and shops. The town itself is really pretty, definitely worth a stop on your way along the Maine coast.
Our hosts John and Dwaine were very attentive and spoiled us with fresh pastries throughout the day and delicious breakfast picks in the morning.

Our room was nicely decorated and well maintained. The bathroom nice and clean.
The mattress was super comfortable!

We loved our stay there!

From the moment we entered the Black Boar Inn, my husband, friends and I realised that our stay would be a truly enjoyable and special one. The smell of freshly baked muffins and brewed coffee permeated the air and our hosts, the new owners, John and Dwain, greeted us with such warmth and friendliness. It didn’t take us long to settle in and return to the kitchen for a chat with John and Dwain who delighted in sharing the Inn’s history and in guiding us to Maine’s popular sites and restaurants. We really appreciate the time and care taken to ensure that we were comfortable and they willing catered meals to suit my husband's peculiar diet. Meals were always freshly prepared, absolutely delicious and beautifully presented, and hot tea and coffee were always aplenty. The rooms are spacious, very comfortable and well maintained, as is the rest of the Inn. We all truly enjoyed our stay and would definitely return to the Black Boar Inn. John and Dwain, thanks for taking such good care of us all. We'll definitely be back.

We attended a recent performance at the Ogunquit Playhouse and decided to treat ourselves to an overnight stay in the area. We chose this Inn mainly out of curiosity since we'd heard that there had been a recent change in ownership. From the moment we walked through the door, we knew that we had made the right decision! The warm welcome that we received from Dwain and John truly made us feel like this was "our" home away from home. A brief tour of the Inn made us appreciate its history, and we were relieved to hear that any future renovations being considered would not take anything away from this historical Ogunquit landmark. We stayed in the King James II room which was cozy, comfortable, and quite roomy. Breakfast was delicious (especially the baked apple!), and we did not leave hungry. Because we live in the local area, we know how overwhelming it can be when trying to choose a place to stay when there are so many choices. Rest assured that you do not need to look any further as The Black Boar Inn is THE place to stay!

It was a pleasure sharing this special historic structure with you. It appears that the Inn may be the 32nd oldest wooden structure in the USA. We are researching and will keep our friends in the loop as we discover more history of the BBI.

Our stay in this historic house was fantastic! The smell of freshly baked brownies wafted in the air as we entered this tastefully decorated inn greeted by hosts John and Dwain . Over tea and coffee we learned of the house history. The breakfast of fresh fruit and yogurt, spinach and feta omelet ,hash brown casserole ,orange juice and coffee was delicious.
The hosts gave us a list of events happening that day which was helpful. Our first time at Ogunquit was truly enjoyable and made memorable by our stay at The Black Boar Inn.
We cannot thank you enough John and Dwain..See you next time..

7 of us stayed comfortably in the Inn. Fully stocked kitchen of utensils so we were able to cook meals. Rooms clean, bathrooms clean everything was great. The porch was a great hangout to sit and watch people. We were able to walk eveywhere because of its great location. Owners were friendly and welcoming.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Built in 1674, with a major addition in 1720, The Black Boar Inn is the oldest structure in the Town of Ogunquit and one of the oldest wooden structures in the United States. BBI is located in the heart of the vibrant Village and only a three minute walk to one of the top rated beaches in America. The Inn offers six large bedrooms with queen beds and private en suite bathrooms with modern amenities. The Inn's common rooms (each with fireplace) offers guests with casual places to relax with family and friends. The Inn's history is truly remarkable. King James II of England (14 October 1633 - 16 September 1701) granted a plot of land in what is present day Ogunquit, Maine, to Alexandre Maxwell at some point in the mid-1600s. The Maxwell family built a home on this multi-acre plot in 1674 and lived there for about 100 years. In the mid-1700s, the home became the property of the Littlefield Family (another founding family of Wells/Ogunquit) through marriage to a Maxwell family member. Eddie Littlefield retained ownership until 1997. As the first two families cherished the property and remained ownership each for more than a century, The Black Boar Inn is now owned by only the third family in the structure's 341 year history. This Legacy Property is a truly authentic guest experience and remains a favorite choice of travellers from all parts of the world. ... more   less
