“So truly wonderful...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 28, 2007

I wish I could say we had a terrible time (so that no one would ever go there and we would never have a crowd) but that would be doing such an injustice to this fabulous place. So, I'll have to be truthful and say we had the best time!!! Andy, Doug and Bob are so delightful and charming, the dogs (there are 4 of them: Fritz, Gretchen, Moosey and Cleo) are so much fun, but they're never in the way as they're only allowed out if people ask to see them. And, let's be real, who wouldn't want to see them, they're so much fun!!! Our room was to-die-for with an unbelievable ocean view and the location was ideal, allowing us to walk to Ogunquit several times daily for exercise and shopping and fun...

Will most definitely be back!!! Thanks, guys...

We stayed at Rockmere Lodge for two nights in October during a month long holiday of Eastern Canada and New England. We stayed in B&Bs nearly all the time and Rockmere Lodge was definitely one of the best.We were just sorry that we hadn't been able to stay more than 2 nights. The situation of the house is superb, right beside the Marginal Way and with ocean views. Our ground floor room was very comfortable, the breakfasts were excellent and the hosts extremely kind and helpful at all time. As we were travelling without a car,Andy even took us on a lovely tour of the area before taking us to the station for our train. If we are in the area again,we'll definitely stay at the Rockmere. Thanks for a great stay.

There is always a certain amount of anxiety involved when staying at a particular B&B for the first time. What will the accommodations actually be like? Will the host(s) be pleasant and helpful? Is the location really as good as it sounds?

Well, in the case of the Rockmere, all that anxiety was wasted. What a delightful place! This Victorian style B&B has looks and personality to spare. The rooms are great, each with its own unique furnishings (we peeked into several before their occupants arrived). Our own third floor room, with its Victorian motif, was roomy and had great ocean views that were visible even while laying in bed.

And our hosts--what can I say? If you want hosts with an extensive knowledge of both the area and its history, who are personable, helpful, and entertaining, and who will go the extra mile for you, this is the place to come.

And the location? It's hard to beat. The house overlooks the ocean and it's almost impossible not to be aware of the sea's presence while you're there. As an added bonus, an entrance to the Marginal Way (a limited access 1.25 mile footpath along the rocky shore) is only a hundred feet away.

And, since this is a B&B, I have to mention the food. The breakfast was well prepared and delicious, a great start to the day. And our hosts, after only a casual mention of my wife's dietary needs, remembered and checked to make sure that what they planned to serve wouldn't be a problem for her.

Great service. Great accommodations. Great hosts. Great location. We stayed for three days and will definitely be back.

  • Liked — The great charm and personality of the place
  • Disliked — That we couldn't stay longer--not their fault--the demands of life had to be answered.

We were only at Rockmere Lodge for one night, but it was a perfect visit. I had requested Room #5 that has two views of the ocean, and it exceeded our expectations. The grounds of the lodge are very well maintained with lots of flowers and a couple of fountains. Just a few steps from the lodge is a paved path called the Marginal Way. It borders the rocky coast for a mile, connecting the villages of Ogunquit and Perkins Cove (a neat little fishing village). After we got settled into our room, we walked into Perkins Cove. When we returned to the inn, we sat out in the cupola, had drinks, and looked out over a perfectly calm sea. The weather was unbelievable. We then walked along the path to Ogunquit and had dinner at the Five-O Shore Road, a very good restaurant.
The next morning, we got up early and walked into Perkins Cove. The lobstermen were just getting under way, so we talked with them for an hour or so. Returned to the inn for a great breakfast.

The innkeepers are Andy, Bob, and Doug. They are great guys who each have unique skills that they apply to this outstanding experience. Nancy and I would recommend the Rockmere Lodge without hesitation.

We stay at Rockmere every October and always have a great time! Andy, Bob and Doug make our stay very enjoyable every time we're there. We wouldn't stay anywhere else in Ogunquit.

My daughter and I have been doing a mother-daughter getaway to Ogunquit for 20 years. We both agree that our stay has to be at Rockmere! Andy, Doug and Bob welcome us back year after year like family. Our visits are refreshing for our souls. People ask us why we go to the same place every year - they don't know how special it is! We relax, enjoy the scenery, walk to everything we love - and breakfast on the porch is the highlight of each day! I yearn to return! See you next summer. We love you guys! The Rockmere Lodge was terrific and our stay was enhanced by the graciousness of our hosts, Andy, Bob and Doug. We enjoyed their company at breakfast and their stories of Ogunquit. The room was warm and cozy and the view was spectacular. I brought along a childhood friend whom will certainly return, as I will, for a visit. And Doug, thanks for making me the cup of hot tea while I waited for Vicki to return from her morning run!! And I loved the dogs too!!
