Finishing up a tour of the lower Maine coast, we stopped in Ogunquit and were told of the Marginal Way. It is a beautiful paved walk along the coast with vistas of rocks, water, and boats. It is an absolute MUST! Be sure you have you camera and plenty of film/storage/batteries.

If you find yourself in the Ogunquit/York area, you simply must walk along Marginal Way before you leave. With benches spaced regularly along the path, you can take as long as you want to enjoy the beautiful sea from atop the cliffs. From one spot you can admire the length of Ogunquit Beach, from another you can sit and watch the water rush into narrow crevasses in the rocks, and from another you can see the shoppers at Perkin's Cove.

Every time I come here, I wonder why I waited so long to come back. Take your time and enjoy it.

Nicely kept paved walkway right along the rocky coast of Ogunquit, Maine. Be careful, but climb the rocks and do a little wading. Path right between lovely homes and the ocean.

The views from the walkways are beautiful and every turn brings a different view of the rocky coastline and waves. There were some sort of beach roses in bloom and purple thistles, adding to the beauty. Marginal Way is a photographers paradise; I can attest as took at least 50 pictures !! Going after Labor Day when most of the tourists are gone is an added plus; the walkway was rather empty of foot-traffic. After your walk, a stop at Barnacle Billy's for a snack or meal is a must !

We stopped to walk the Marginal Way on our way home from Bar Harbor. From the reviews here, I was expecting something spectacular. But after seeing some of the wilder places of Maine, this seemed like Maine Lite. Too tame, too crowded, too managed. We had visions in our head of our favorite spot -- Schooner Head, outside Acadia National Park -- and this place just couldn't compete. Worth a stop if you're going by, but don't spend $15 as we did for parking.
