With the philosophy that we try anything new at least once, it is safe to say that we'll return to 76 Pleasant Street each time we travel to this part of Maine. Each menu item (we've tried them all!) is not only aesthetically pleasing to the eye, but blesses the palate with the need for more! As world-wide diners, we celebrate the dining experience knowing 76 Pleasant Street exceeds our expectations and rewards our love of eating exceptionally prepared and served food. Une vraie plaisir gastronomique!

My wife and I go out to a fancy restaurant every year for our anniversary celebration. This was our first visit to 76 Pleasant Street, but will not be our last.

Located in a restored Victorian house, there are two seating rooms, nicely decorated and open. We visited on a Wednesday night at 7PM, about 20 minutes before our scheduled reservation, and were greeted and seated promptly.

76 Pleasant has a rotating menu, which was presented to us at the table (also available online). We were served bread and whipped butter balls, and asked if we wanted water with our drinks. The menu had seven starter choices, and eight entrees. Not overwhelming but quite hard to decide from, as everything looked great.

For starters, we chose sherry cooked shredded brussel sprouts under a poached egg, orange cardamom crab cakes, and a split of antipasto salad. The excellent salad was served on separate plates, which was a nice touch. The brussel sprouts had a great flavor and texture, especially when the poached egg was cut over them. The crab cakes were simply to die for. Perfectly prepared with deep flavor, the wife is still craving them.

For entrees, I had a perfectly cooked medium rare pink peppercorn fillet of beef with whipped cannelinis & mushrooms, while my bride had lamb ragu with tomato, peas & feta over spinach tagliatelle pasta. The flavors were very well balanced without fighting one another, and the textures were just right, as were the portion sizes.

Our server asked if we were celebrating anything special, we responded with 'our 31st anniversary!' and a few minutes later we were presented with a perfectly prepared crème brulee in a heart shaped dish to share over our excellent coffee.

I really enjoyed the in room serving station, where specific tableware was drawn for the customer's needs. It personalized the presentation of the food and the needs of the customer. The only improvement I could think of would be some softer decoration to help cut down on room noise from adjacent tables. There was a larger group of sales & marketing people seated nearby that were annoyingly loud.

We visit New York City yearly, and 76 Pleasant was right on par with some of the better restaurants we have visited there, and right in my backyard! We would recommend it to anyone.

Excellent food, excellent service, excellent experience! What more can I say? How about the fact that they got me not only to eat a mushroom, but to thoroughly enjoy it and want more!

Recently we visited Norway for skiing at Sunday River. Our friends made reservations at 76 Pleasant Street. It was an amazing evening from beginning to end. The restaurant is located in an old Victorian type home. Very warm, very welcoming and charmingly decorated. We especially liked the old copper tables and modern chairs. The hostess/server was cordial. She seated us soon after our arrival. Our friends were thrilled with the wine list because it contained a Fess Parker chardonnay which they had on a long ago vacation. I had a glass of Riesling. It was light and slightly dry, not too sweet and paired nicely with my dinner. Each appetizer and each entree was delicious, each a work of art. We finished with creme brulee and a berry tart. Good coffee.

Set in a large Victorian house, we met friends at a restaurant on a side street in Norway Maine . We made reservations and were seated at one of only 2 or 3 tables in a quaint room. It was quiet and personal. The food was high quality and carefully presented. Recommend for a special night out with friends or business meeting.
