We recently stayed at the Asticou Inn for my sister's wedding. Not only was the staff able to create a personal and homey environment, they were also completely compentent and created a beautiful day start to finish for my sister. Also, my husband and I were traveling with our 10 month old. The inn provided us with a crib, and during the wedding reception, were also able to find us a local babysitter, who was absolutely amazing. Every morning, we had an incredible continental breakfast overlooking the ocean. We also ate at the restaurant located on the main floor of the Inn. The food was incredible. Each person at our table had a different entree with the same results. Perfection. It was also a very relaxing and serene environment.
The scenery surrounding the Asticou is just as amazing as the Inn itself. There were several incredible gardens, great hiking trails, and wonderful local cuisine. There were a host of activities to do for every age and physical fitness level. We thorougly enjoyed our time at this Inn and would recommend it to anyone looking to stay in this area, and especially to couples looking to have a wedding on the gorgeous coast of Maine. This is your spot! It was simply wonderful.

We had a wonderful stay at the Asticou. We enjoyed everyday. Loved Bar Harbor and the food was fabulous. We definitely plan on going back again next year.

We spent 2 nights in Asticou Inn the 3rd week of September as part of a biking tour. The inn is very well located to explore Acadia National Park. Rooms were nice and clean, I loved the fact that there was no tv. The view from our room was gourgeus. The inn has an overall peaceful ambience with beautful views, lovely to seatback and read or just do nothing. The service, it was not the worse but it lacks that special touch you are expecting in a small inn. Breakfast were just ok, nothing to impress. I would recommend it, I liked it, I did not love it!

We got married on Sunday October 12, 2008 at the Asticou and it was a destination wedding. We wanted a spectacular place for our wedding, as well as, an excellent place for all of our out-of-town guests to enjoy. Our wedding was perfect and we couldn't have asked for more. We fell in love with the Asticou, a beautiful Maine Inn on the water, right away when we got engaged. We had a little bit of a hard time getting in touch with someone to book the place and it took a while to get a response through the planning process, but don't let this get you discouraged. It is totally worth it! Tom, the wedding coordinator was the best! He did everything we wanted and then some. We were able to make special requests and they accomodated every single one! He made sure that every detail was perfect. The food and wine were excellent! We had boiled lobster, prime rib, and the pasta primavera, and they were great. We had a sit-down dinner and we were a little nervous about the portion sizes. No worries! There was so much food and it was fabulous! Tom calmed a very nervous bride down and the centerpieces on the table were set up by his staff perfectly (exactly the way I had it in my head). We had open wine (red and white) and the choices were spectacular. Everything was fantastic. The females in the wedding party, moms and aunt and cousin all got ready in one of the rooms. It was so fun! It was such a cute room overlooking the water and the grounds. We had the entire downstairs (all of the rooms and the deck) and it was a huge hit. People were able to wander into each spot and find the best place for them to relax. We had our dance floor on the deck and tables outside, and they set up heaters so we could enjoy the outdoors without being cold. It was really the best experience ever! The staff were so professional and accomodating!! We love the Asticou Inn and are so grateful that we had our wedding at this perfect venue!

We recently stayed at the "highly acclaimed" Asticou Inn while attendind a wedding. Needless to say we were extremely disapointed in our stay, the "suite" was small, stuffy, and dusty. The king-sized bed had a piece of plywood between the mattress and the box spring and the wall paper was peeling from the walls. The room we had overlooked the hotel entrance way and was noisy with traffic. For $268 per night we surely expected a bit more. The "continental breakfast" was as basic as you can get. We were scheduled for two nights stay, however we checked out after the first night. The website is clearly misleading, there was absolutly NO pampering going on in this hotel. This place clearly has potential, however not with the current ownership/management and staff. I was disappointed with all aspects of this place, including any corrispondance from management. They got me this time, it won't happen again!

The locals call the Asticou the "wedding factory" and now we know why. Our romantic weekend away was ruined by THREE weddings at the inn over the course of the weeked. The staff not helpful during our stay and they were rude in some cases. Our "ocean view" room only had a sliver of a view of the water. Breakfast ends at 9 during the week (which they didn't tell us) and you won't get any food if you show up late.

On the positive side, our room (in one of the out buildings) was clean and the bed was comfortable. The common areas were fairly well maintained. There is a deck with a nice view of the harbor and a pool.

We stayed two nights as part of a group, and our room was at the low end of the group experience. We were on the fourth floor, and had to climb the stairs to get there. (Later, we found the elevator, but no one mentioned it at check in.) Fortunately, our group leader had already transported luggage upstairs! The room was smallish, the bathroom was miniscule, and the bathroom door was barely able to close (after maneuvering it past the toilet). Our room (#148) looked out over the parking lot, not the bay, and we got to listen to employees down below talking & arguing. No amenities in the rooms, just an envelope from the housekeeper who must have expected a big tip. I was coughing & sneezing at night because of the accumulated dust in the room, and a friend in another room probably got bed bug bites (but she did have a larger bathroom and a view of the water.) Another member of our group had a water view room, but their bathroom was even smaller--they had to sit on the toilet in order to use the sink. Other rooms do have adjacent sitting areas; we just didn't get one of those rooms.
The rooms don't have TV, which is fine for an old rustic place, and they do have a living room with cable TV for viewing. If you want internet access, you have to go behind the desk. Cell phone coverage in the area is spotty.
Staff there was not terribly helpful--they mostly seemed clueless. I don't know whether it was because it was the start of the season, or if that is going to be their attitude the entire season. The guy at the concierge desk did give us good instructions on how to get to the carriage trails at Acadia Natl Park.
We ate dinner at the restaurant, and it was good. Our breakfasts were included, and were good too, although the wait staff was clueless as well. Baked goods seemed fresh, but they were all out of whole wheat bread for toast two days in a row. The guy at the bar was slow, and didn't have any idea which wines he actually had in stock. He had to dig around in the refrigerator looking for 3 or 4 of the wines we requested before he found one.
We understood that this century old structure was going to be torn down several years ago before someone stepped in and declared it a historic site. It is run as a non-profit, and maybe they manage not to get a profit by providing poor service.
The pool was hyped as being 82 degrees, but it really seemed about 70. Only seemed warm when you compared it to the air temp of 60.
