“Excellent food, Mellow Atmosphere”
Reviewed August 28, 2010

Anyone looking for a calm & relaxed atmosphere along with good food, will enjoy the Docksider. We ate their for dinner several times this trip and the lobster was outstanding, as was everything else we ate. The place was (and is usually) populated with locals, not just tourists. Service is quick. Get their a little early in the evening, before the rush, or make reservations. Otherwise you'll have to wait. To those questioning some of the other reviews versus mine, all I can say is people do not wait in line for bad food.

“sad...”
Reviewed October 19, 2009

For many years this has been our favorite place for completely informal but yummy homemade food. We only went once this past visit to Maine, and it seemed to have really gone downhill. The clam chowder tasted as though it might have come out of a can. My husband ordered steamed clams and was told, "we had some, but they died!" Still, I know we'll try again next year, hoping that visit was aberrational.

“Decent food......good service..........good prices.”
Reviewed July 24, 2009

Having had a bad experience up the road at Colonel's, we came here for a quick lunch. I thought the fried clams were good and fresh, although the batter could have been more flavorful. My wife was disappointed with her grilled chicken salad though.
The woman who waited on us had to be tending 3/4's of the tables in there and she was amazing. We were greeted promptly, our drinks came quickly as did our food. All in all, it is what it is............a casual beach style restaurant. We were not at all disappointed and would go back again.

“favorite places”
Reviewed September 24, 2008

The Docksider has something for everyone. Been in business along time and so glad it is still the same as it always was. The fried fish is fresh and with a light coating, not that thick batter. Lobster boiled outside. I have never had a bad meal the salads are big enough for two and the ribs are very very good. They have a good burger also! The kids like the chicken fingers and the ice cream of course. The steamed clams are small and tender. The prices are reasonable for todays market and I think they are the cheapest place to eat on Mount Desert Island. Certainly Northeast Harbor. They seemed short of staff this year, but I found that to be true with several places in the area. The staff is very funny, Real maine characters! Oh and milk shakes are not on the menu, but they will make one for you anyway!
