“Terrible, overpriced and run by teenagers.”
Reviewed June 23, 2013

This was a horrible lunch experience. We were a family group sightseeing south of Mount Desert island. We stopped in Northeast Harbor for lunch. What a disappointing selection of choices this small town offers.
We chose Docksider, what a bad decision this was.
We were served by what appeared to be a 14 year old boy, with several more "14 year olds" in the kitchen.
Outdoor seating was four wooden bleacher type benches.
We ordered a mixture of BLT's, cheeseburger and tuna melt at an average of $7.99, but fries and coleslaw are $3.99 each!!! But if you order these with the sandwich it's only $2.50 each.
So a sandwich with fries and coleslaw costs $12.99.
Put this into perspective. The name is deceptive, we were eating on a quiet uninteresting side street with zero view of the distant harbor. The sandwiches were very small, the sides of microwave fries was even smaller. The tuna melt was smaller than a children's portion.
Finally to put the nail in this terrible experience, they put our order on the credit card of the previous customer!!! Fortunately we noticed before we left. The scarey thing is that when we asked the young boy to reverse the credit card charge he said he couldn't, he didn't know how to.
We asked to speak to an adult manager. He told us there were no adults there???
We were left to resolve this with the customer who's credit hard had been charged for our food by paying him in cash.
Take my advise, stay away from Docksider, and pick another town to eat in.

“The best lobstahroll”
Reviewed June 21, 2013

We had a bit of trouble finding this place. It is on Sea St. Once you find it, welcome to heaven--if you love lobster rolls, fried clams, chowder, and no pretensions. We are fussy about lobster rolls. Hubby is Maine native, me an aficionado, both tending to eat light. Here, we ate two lobster rolls and a fried clam roll and fries and chips, and we never eat like that normally. A memorably wonderful lunch. Great service, too.

“If you love chowder, steamed lobster and onion rings”
Reviewed March 4, 2013

Nothing fancy hole in the wall kind of place but the six of us loved it. The chowder and steamed lobster and onion rings were the best. We ate lobster three times a day for ten days. Found DOCKSIDE by accident after a ferry ride to one of the islands. We had been told to eat at the restaurant across the street but looked at the menu and decided to go elsewhere. We had lunch. The price, quality of food, quantity and service was so fine that we made reservations for dinner for the next night. We were staying in Bar Harbor. "DOCKSIDE" had the best food on our whole trip and we ate at all the really pricey "uptown" restaurants in Bar Harbor. Don't be disappointed, go to "DOCKSIDE." No I am not the owner. I am just a tourist from south Louisiana who knows great food!

“Best Clam Chowder ANYWHERE!”
Reviewed October 11, 2012

My wife and I have been coming to the Docksider ever since our first visit nearly twenty years ago. Only got a cup of their clam chowder that time but have had a bowl on each visit since. It is pricey (about $10) but so loaded with tender clams that it is a meal in itself. It is creamy but not thick. All you get fro the thick gooey kind of chowder is tastless flour. Try it and you too will be a fan.

All of the seafood is great but we prefer the mussels for lunch. This 1 1/2 bag with the clam chowder is a hearty meal.

Can't wait until our next visit.

“Docksider meal”
Reviewed October 2, 2012

Have eaten at the Docksider so many times!!! It is the place that the "stars" and famous folks go to , to eat fresh seafood. I Love the Fried haddock sandwich and the clam chowder is authentic Maine chowder..very thin with clams and potatoes. YUM!
