We paid $1,200 for a ski resort which promised a hot tub and a heated pool. First night, the 'heated' pool is cold and the hot tub is broken. Our second, which will be today, we are told that the hot tub will be broken again. The amount of money they gave us back is laughable - $35. We got a hotel room for the hot tub and pool, otherwise we could have saved over a grand and stayed in my friends car. If we paid for a room and there were no beds, I would expect a substantial refund; this is no different. Lying to customers in such a blatant manner is likely illegal. In addition, our shower faucet broke and the concierge was rude - we paid for a luxury resort and got a roach motel experience. I travel a lot and have never been this disappointed with a hotel in my life.

We stayed here for 2 nights as a Owner/Guest, and our friend's unit was great. Suffice to say, we had every amenity at our disposal, so we were quite happy. Our 2nd floor room overlooked part of the heated outdoor pool AND the ski-lift and woods.

All in all, a great 3rd time visit for my Fiancee, a great 1st for me.

Further to my review of February 2012 I have been meaning to write this update for ages. On returning from the US I complained again about the situation we encountered on our annual visit to Sunday River, only this time to Mr Kercher a member of the owning family. He asked Karl Strand to get back to me, which he did and suffice to say we will be returning to Sunday River in February 2013. This has restored my faith in the team at Sunday River!!

Room Tip: Ask to be sited away from school parties when you book.

Great Family Place. The skiing is great because there is a level for everyone. We go almost every year and the ski school is the best.

Room Tip: The Jordan is a great hotel and wonderful for ski in and ski out.

This was my first experience of skiing and I'll split my review into a few sections.
Accommodation - the Ski-dorm is a typical youth hostel style accommodation only a 5 minute walk from the main lodge, it was absolutely fully booked (this was due to many other ski resorts closing early and many other school parties were moved here). Although very loud with around 200 teenagers, the staff handled it fantastically, especially at meal times (the food was actually good too!) and with the evening programmes. The rooms themselves mostly had four bunk beds each with a double bathroom. Perhaps a bit tired but fully functional and clean. They were very warm, too hot to sleep in really, but we could not open the windows at the request of the management. Something to do with pipes freezing in the rooms. The common areas were spacious and included many tv's, sofas and table tennis. Again a bit tired (although i suspect very used by many teens!!). A room to store our skis was available and a shuttle bus was also provided to ferry us and our ski gear to the main lodge and back.
Skiing Tuition - We had four hours of lessons per day and apparently the resort had about 200 instructors. The instructors we encountered (I had 3 across the week) were absolutely fantastic. Enthusiastic, patient and friendly. The groups were a little large to start with, about 14-16 but this lowered to about 10 by the end of the week. There were also plenty of extra staff to help out, especially at the magic carpet area. The ski patrol were also easily identifiable and plentiful. The lifts were great and did not have long lines. The issuing of skis, boots, poles & helmets was very efficient also.
Lunch facilities - only the main lodge was open, however there was plenty of choice of food and space. $15-20 for a lot a of food and soft beveridges.
Dinner - we tried the Foggy Goggle and The Phoenix, the latter was better and perhaps more reasonable with the daily specials.
There was a lack of snow this year and a huge melt had occured just before we arrived. This meant a 2-3 meter mud walk and avoiding some mud and grass on a few slopes. There were still 3 or 4 green runs open that provided enough variety for the beginners group however they resort moved snow and groomed nightly to help the situation.
The group also visited the cinema and the adventure centre in Bethel. Both were enjoyed. The Joly Drayman English pub has a lovely atmosphere and good food too.

Room Tip: Stay at the Inn or the resort hotels he he! The ski in and out at the Grand Summit looked like fun!

First time visitors, booked a 5 weekday 5 night ski package for 2. Great value midweek despite some hill facilities closing on weekdays. Good location near town, easy parking and check in. Very friendly staff at the counter and restaurant. Not busy while we were there so we found the ski check and breakfasts quick and easy. It was nice not to have to drag our boards back to the room every night. Settled into a great breakfast-ski-coffee-ski-lunch-ski-hot tub-sauna-dinner/drinks routine. Awesome and varied breakfast buffet with yummy crepe and omelette bar. Food at Legends restaurant in the hotel was good value. Room layout was a bit odd with no nightstands or fridge/microwave; the bed (not Murphy) was comfortable! Wifi worked great in the lobby but was spotty further away in the hotel.
