We visited Quartino recently and liked the food alot. it's a lovely setting overlooking Sunday River. We liked the education we got about the wine too. There were many unusual wines to choose from. I didn't love either of the ones we tasted but this is a nice way to taste different wines. They pour them into these little 8 oz "quartinos" and they vary in price from $8 up.

The food is small plate at this point and very, very good. If you want a meal you'll need to order a few plates. It's a great place for apres ski, and wine tasting. We really enjoyed it. Not a place for kids though.

Quartino is a new bar restaurant on the Sunday River access road. Married to a XC ski emporium Quartino opened at the end of 2013 serving wine and tapas of novelty and distinction. We went a few days ago and had a lovely experience. The wine list is concise but offers a choice unique to the area by the bottle and by the "Quartino"-a quarter litre in a carafe named the same. There is a cosy fireplace, ample table space and a bar-our chosen place to enjoy the food, wine and conversation with Brett the proprietor and sommelier. The tapas is delicious. we had crusty bread with roasted garlic and pimenton butters to start followed by a brilliant roasted kale and butternut squash salad. The "patatas bravas" fries cooked in duck fat took us straight back to the Basque area where we live out of ski season. My wife then had the "pig candy"- a beautifully presented concoction of roasted brussel sprouts and pork belly skewered over butternut squash. I had the chorizo al vino salad. Delicious! For our "Quartino's" of wine we had an '09 Pinot Gris from Hugel and a '12 "Novellum" chardonnay . For a red we settled on a '12 Cartuja Priorat. Really good value. Go!
