Overall decent place to lay your head.
Biggest problem is if someone farts in the room next to you it sounds like an bomb. The walls are paper thin!!

We've stayed here twice, once in May and once in October. Clean, good location, and great value. We like that the bedroom is split off from the main area so if someone is up late or early they can do so without waking the others up. It's better than the other spot we have stayed in here in Newport. Plus you get a fly swatted in your room! (We've never had flies though.)

I stayed at Pray's Motel for two nights in May and liked it so much I returned for two more nights in June with my dog. Pray's is a small 10 room motel located in back of a gas/service station and I agree with the other TripAdvisor members that this place is a great value. For about $50/night you get a small, rustic mini-suite with lots of thoughtful touches not found in hotels for twice the money. I stayed in Room #3 which had two twin beds in a small bedroom, living area with kitchenette and full bathroom. Everything was old but very clean and immaculate. The carpeting in the living room and bedroom was clean and not gross. The kitchenette has a coffeemaker, two burner stove, sink, cabinets, and a mini fridge (freezer works great) -- bring your own pots and pans. No microwave. The immaculate bathroom had 4 sets of towels much larger than what you'd get at a Motel 6, and amenities like soap and shampoo (no hairdryer). The shower head is forceful. The TV in the living area was a standard CRT but had a great reception due to excellent cable service. I believe Internet is available but I used the library just down the street. Other nice touches included air fresheners in the living room/ bath, two chairs with chair cushions, loveseat-sized sofa with pillows in the living area, end table with lamp. There are plenty of lamps and lighting -- much better than in a fancier motel. The bedroom has an alarm clock. There are extra pillows and blankets (a bit thin) but the mattresses are fine. No phones are in the rooms, so don't expect any wake-up calls. All the windows open to fresh air outside and there is also an A/C in the bedroom. Outside each mini-suite is a freshly painted bench to relax in. Although the street is a deadend (bridge construction), surprisingly on summer nights there is a lot of traffic around downtown Newport due to the detour around Rte 2. The downtown area is rundown and dilapidated with second-hand stores and the court, police/fire station and town offices are a 5 minute walk away. Fast food (Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, MacDonalds, Tim Horton's), restaurants, Walmart, supermarket, banks and a hardware store are all a 5 minute drive away on Rte 7 near I-95. Note, since the office is in the service station after 6 pm (5 pm on weekends) you have to go to the owner's residence (house in back of the motel) to pick up your key. When I called, the guys who answered the phone were very friendly and polite. Also, a lot of contractors stay there for weeks so the motel is often sold out, so book early. The owner has been trying to sell the property for a few years as I noticed a "For Sale" sign out in front, but lucky for us he has not sold the motel yet and if your car breaks down they will be able to fix it, too.

My family and I stayed at Pray's Motel because of an unexpected situation. I was very surprised at how homey and clean this place was. It may not be the most modern motel, but we found our stay to be nice, quiet, and comfortable and all of us thoroughly enjoyed the room lay-out and the amenities were that of home. ( Just remember pots and pans). Very fair price too!!! I would most definately stay at Pray's again.

Traveling through to New Hampshire stopped for the night after reading about the quality of accomodations around Bangor decided to try Pray's Motel. Outside looks are deceiving, this motel is clean, comfortable and inexpensive.

I am writing this review on behalf of my mother. We now live in Florida but used to be residents of Newport and travel there to visit family about 3 times per year. This past visit was about the 3rd consecutive time that reservations have been lost or "mixed up". Because of these mistakes, my mother has been forced to go to a more expensive hotel, which is also miles away. Thinking that these mistakes were starting to become a bit ridiculous, my mother kindly asked for some type of small discount to make up for her troubles. Instead of offering a resolution, the owner called her a liar! By the way, the owner also explained that the method for taking reservations is that "the guys write it on a little piece of paper and give it to me". Now that sounds highly efficient and professional to me, but I do think that it may be possible for "a little piece of paper to be lost from time to time. What do you think?
