well, if location is important. It is right on the ocean with beautiful views. 16$ cab ride to boothbay harbor. (we'll stay in the harbor next time) There is no television in the room, and the bar closes at 10pm. I felt like I was staying at my parents house.

This place was just what I was looking for in a Maine vacation. The Inn is located on one of the most spectacular pieces of property overlooking the ocean. I loved that it felt private and secluded but was only a 10 minute drive to Boothbay Harbor. The staff was accommodating without being pushy. The room was cozy and clean. And lucky for us, the weather was perfect!

After winding down a pine tree lined driveway, you arrive at the Inn where the salty air and lulling hum of the lighthouse bells instantly calms your soul. Nighttime at the Inn is especially wonderful…whether you choose to roast marshmallows at the outdoor firepit, cozy up on a leather sofa next to one of the indoor fireplaces with some wine, or sit on the dock with a loved one watching the moon reflect off the cool Maine waters…you are certain to have a magical experience.

We recently spent a week at the Newagen to host and celebrate our daughter's wedding. It was the most delightful location with magnicifent ocean views all around us The Inn is lovingly cared for and hosted by a staff that took such wonderful care of us that we now consider them to be friends. Our accomodations were very comfortable with unique and individually appointed rooms that made us feel so at home. Our breakfasts were delicious, our dinners were prepared with great attention to creative detail by Chef Dan and each meal was served by a staff who really loved being part of this historic Inn. Jason is an amazing Innkeeper and his staff knows it- many of the staff come back every summer to be part of the Newagen family.
This has been our fifth visit to the Newagen and each visit has been more enjoyable than the one before. Our family agrees that each year we will return to the beauty of Maine that is all around us at the Newagen. We highly recommend a trip to Boothbay Harbor and the Newagen Seaside Inn.

We came in August 2009 and checked out after two nights of what should have been a 7-night stay. We were really disappointed, after the good reviews we read. It's a shame, really, because the hotel is in a beautiful location on the coast of Maine. The cottage we booked was horrible, however. Let's see - where do I start? Lots of mold, dead mosquitoes on the walls, water stains on the ceilings, mold in the bathroom, unpainted wooden plywood comprising the walls of the "screened porch," ripped screens allowing all kinds of bugs to get into the room, moldy cushions on the chairs, stained and mildewy rugs, unpainted walls. The furniture that was in the room was tag-sale quality, and clearly hadn't been cleaned or updated for years.

The actual inn looked fairly nice, but I would not recommend the cottages here. They are very run-down and it's apparent the owner is not putting any money into them. (Someone mentioned that the owner is trying to sell the inn - maybe that's why they are spending no money on it.) The only good thing I can say is that the clerk let us out of our 7-day rental without an argument, which I assume is because she's heard these complaints before. Really, how can they defend renting such a dump for $270 night? If we were paying $100/night we might have understood the quality of the hotel, but it's simply unacceptable to charge nearly $300/night for such an atrocious cottage.

We will never return.
