“A nice escape.”
Reviewed September 23, 2013

Staff was very patient & helpful when I was booking the room, quickly responded that they received my payment, and was very helpful when it came to suggesting restaurants or giving us maps of the area. Our room in one of the bungalows was very clean, large, & comfortable. We were there during the cooler weather & wish we had more time to enjoy the large deck area outside our room. Comfy beds with clean, soft sheets. Downside was that you could hear a lot from the other people sharing space in the bungalow building. Doors slamming and people snoring or talking. We did not have WiFi in our hotel room (solved with a quick walk to the main building) and Sprint cell service is not available at all (not the fault of the hotel) but after a long day enjoying the very close Pemaquid Point Lighthouse & other activities, we were almost too tired to care.
A pleasant stay. Hope to visit again soon.

The Hotel Pemaquid is a rustic throw-back to a simpler time, but we can forget what we take for granted in the 21st century ... and these things may be missed. Like wi-fi, cell phones, close-by restaurants, stores, & services. Some of that can't be helped due to their very remote location, but be prepaired to drive to find a restaurant selection (there is no restaurant or breakfast service at this hotel ... there are several good restaurants in the towns of Newcastle & Damariscotta, but they are 20-30 minutes north), or to make a phone call (at least with AT&T cell service, you need to drive at least 10 minutes north).

If you want to stay near Pemaquid point, there are very few options ... the Bradley Inn is the only other we could find south of New Harbor itself.

There are 2 restaurants within walking distance ... the Sea Gull (which is a gift shop, next to the lighthouse, but includes a restaurant which is okay), and the Bradley Inn dining room (which was not open the evening which we wanted to eat there, but is evidently quite good).

The rooms, most likely, are different in the different buildings, but ours was a bit run-down, was damp, a bit stuffy, & musty smelling (there is a ceiling fan which helped a bit, but it was worn out and noisy, affecting a sound sleep), and the bathroom was not up to par (small, dark, rough around the edges, not very clean, and the bathtub faucet only worked in shower mode ... the lever to turn it to tub mode was missing).

I'm sure the people who run the hotel are very nice, but it could be run a bit more efficiently. The person who checked us in wanted to be helpful, but wasn't well trained, so couldn't help with the simplest questions about the area.

On the positive side, the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse is a very short walk from the hotel, and is very picturesque.

Room Tip: Don't expect too much.

I will start by saying it was unseasonally hot in Maine, in the 90's, in July 2013, when we were there. We had a room with one window and a fan. It was miserably hot and we slept very little, even with our door open half the night. At least I felt safe enough to leave the door open. No staff available at night at the office. The hotel is quaint, with antiques, etc. The bathroom we shared was not so quaint, with it's leaky old faucet and tiny shower. No view of the ocean and couldn't hear the ocean. We picked the top floor so we could see the ocean but no view. It is nice and close to Pemaquid point and lighthouse. I learned a lesson--ask about air conditioning in the future.

Room Tip: Do not chose a room in the main building on the top floor in the summer-too hot! no A/C.

This was my third trip to the Pemaquid Hotel over the past 30 years. I love this inn and it's quaint, relaxing atmosphere. The inn staff were very nice, providing a local map with suggestions for meals and activities. In the morning, coffee was served on the porch.

Room was clean and neat. We had the room with the 2 twin beds and private bath.
Such a wonderfully short walking distance to the lighthouse and the cafe.

We stayed at the Pemaquid on the way to Acadia. The carriage house was nice for the family. The trip back in time was refreshing and enjoyable. The staff was very helpful and friendly. I just wish the surf had been louder! I opened the windows but the sound did not carry through the room. The lighthouse was neat and we were able to enter the tower. The ocean was great.

Stayed first week of August and being so close to the Pemaquid Lighthouse was great... spend a lot of time photographing the area and look forward to our visit again. Would recommend the bungalows and everyone made our stay perfect ... love the restaurant recommendations and very clean rooms. Thank you Hotel Pemaquid and staff for making this a perfect destination for our holidays so close to everything

Room Tip: Bungalows are the best

We and another couple stayed at this hotel this past weekend. We had made reservations for the two suites and were told that one had a kitchen so we planned on having breakfast in the room before we headed out for our early ferry to Monhegan Island. We were surprised to find at check in that there was no kitchen (the website clearly says that one suite has a kitchen and that the other one has a sun porch). There was no sun porch either. The lady at the desk called the hotel keeper and she provided us with some bowls and plastic spoons. We were also surprised that there were not toiletries in the bathroom other than soap. This is the first hotel we have ever stayed at that does not provide shampoo. The suites, as well as all the public areas at the hotel, were beautifully decorated with antiques. We loved the hotel and the location but were disappointed by the fact that there was no kitchen when we planned on having one and that there were no toiletries other than soap.

Room Tip: The description of the suites as one having a kitchen and the other a sun porch is not correct. Ther...

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The Hotel Pemaquid offers a step into yesteryear with a relaxing atmosphere that is reminiscent of early twentieth century summering in the area complete with antiques and a restoration of many original hotel features. We are the closest hotel to the Pemaquid Lighthouse, our rooms are offered at reasonable rates, all rooms have flat screen televisions and refrigerators, and there is internet available but service on the point can be spotty. Many of our guests take walks along the rocky coast, eat lots of seafood, and spend time relaxing with a book on our porch. We hope you consider the Hotel Pemaquid when in midcoast Maine. ... more   less
