Description: An authentic Irish pub in the heart of the Lakes Region. Created in the spirit of country pubs in southern Ireland, the owner, from Waterford, Ireland, assures us that the tradition and ambiance of a true 'public house' is presented to each guest that visits 'the Bear." The staff are each trained to pour a perfect pint, great food is delivered from the tiny kitchen, including local favorites like Fish 'n Chips, steaks, salads, seafood, burgers, and amazing desserts. Ask your server about vegetarian and gluten free options too.

“A jewel in the rough of Maine...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 2, 2012

Wife, family & I have been enjoying the meals and camaraderie of the staff, John & Susan , Sarah, Kamal, Murphy etc.... the music is live and musicians will solicit suggestions from the crowd...if they don't know the song they usually give a pretty good second and have returned later with another. The head chef has come up with a few ingenious creations and every 3 or 4 months there is a new selection of delightful seasonal culinary masterpieces...Food has always proved well prepared and Delicious. Basic staples like the fish and chips have always been dependable. Good section of ice cold drafts....freshest Guinness north of South Boston! Easy spot to while way 3 or 4 hours into the evening - be it winter or summer..Always welcomed with cheerful smile and hearty hello

“The best restuarant in the Lakes Region”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2012

It's a Lake's Region of Cheers - everybody knows your name. The owners John and Susan take the time to get to know you. The changing seasonal menu offers up a surprisingly good upscale menu at reasonable prices. Don't get me wrong, it's not the most affordable place in the region, just don't confuse affordability with value. Value-wise it's the best bet around. From creative apps and soups to daily main course specials the quality is first rate. Everything is fresh and served hot. Service can be a little off at times. If you are ordering one of their gourmet pizza's with a meal, order the pizza a little head of time. They hand pull the dough and this takes more time than you might be used to. Don't worry it's worth it. Save room for desserts which are worth it. They have a Guinness Orange Chocolate Cake that is manna from heaven.

I have had many meals here and they've all been above expectations. Flavors you can't find anywhere else in Maine!

“Wonderful experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2012 via mobile

We ate here on Saturday night and had the trout special and then had chocolate bread pudding for desert. During the meal we had live music and it was just the right volume so you could still carry on a conversation. Overall a wonderful evening.

Fine place, but no breakfast, no lunch, Open at four seven days a week. Good Irish music on several nights. Food is about what you'd expect--perhaps a cut above typical pub food. Generous and good salads. Simple is probably best. Fish and chips, haddock, roast chicken all perfectly satisfactory. Very nice, friendly atmosphere.
