We recently ate at the Barnacle (lunch) on one of the last days of the season. We were impressed by the selection of food still available compared to other shops due to the lateness of the year. (Perhaps b/c the Barnacle is part of the Island Inn entity.) On this glorious and sunny day, we had chowder, sandwiches, and dessert. We were limited in choices of drinks, again, due to end of inventory, but it certainly had something fo each of us. Our sandwiches were good, large, and fresh and the chowder was very good. Large chunks of potato and a creamy base that was not too thick made it a good treat. While we were tempted by the bacon and cheddar scones (which disappeared fast), we simply had to get the enormous chocolate cupcake, which was delicious and had just a touch of white squiggle frosting on top of the chocolate frosting.
In addition to choosing this as our lunch location, we bought a few souvenirs there, as they had a good selection of magnets and t-shirts, including some with designs by local artists from Monhegan. We thoroughly enjoyed our repast at the Barnacle, and circled back around later in the day to again sit on the deck and have a drink before heading back on the ferry. The view of the wharf and the village comings and goings can't be beat.
