We go to Monhegan every year and look forward to it. It is a convenient escape from everything and beautiful spot for hiking and photography. A great place to relax

The entire experience was a value. I liked no vehicles, no paved roads, quiet, peaceful, blissful, serene!

“A world of it's own - and it likes it that way.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 11, 2012

After a 90 minute boat ride - we went on Balmy Day Cruises, great job, very comfortable - we arrived on this incredibly beautiful bit of land with a character all it's own. You want transportation - choose from pick up trucks, golf carts or your feet. You want to rent a house - most have heat and electricity. A wonderful, home like Inn? Got that. Artist studios - got those. Walking trails - lots to choose from. Also a library, schoolhouse, worship facilities - everything they need to handle 65 year round residents. A desire to keep their island a natural paradise - you better believe it! Read up on it before you go - it may not be for everyone but if you do go you will see why it is on every list of top Maine attractions. Enjoy it - and leave it the way you found it so when you return it will be as beautiful as ever.

“Artist's haven”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 25, 2012

This is a magical island off the coast of Maine. No paved roads, few trucks, no cars, no street lights, lots of hiking along cliffs with spectacular surf. Artists abound - Rockwell Kent, Jamie Wyeth painted here. Skies at night are full of bright stars.

We've been there for 11 years, spending two weeks in a rental cottage through Shining Sales.

Weather in September is clear, cool with visibility of 10-20 miles to Pemaquid point and Camden hills.

“Hitchcock House = Rude”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 20, 2012

I tried to make a reservation twice this week. Left 2 messages. No call back. When I called a 3rd time, she said "We have nothing." And hung up.

I work in hospitality too. In Maine. Six days a week. But I am also generous, because I know how hard the industry is. And I want to keep my money in Maine.

If you're as rude as the lady who answers the phone there, that's OK. I'll still spend my money Midcoast, but it will not be at Hitchcock House.
