My wife and I recently stayed at the new Inn of Acadia in Madawaska, Maine. We have been coming to Aroostook County for years and until the Hampton Inn was built in Presque Isle, we haven't been able to find a place that had any of the newer amenities we've come to expect when we travel. We discovered the Inn of Acadia just as they were having their grand opening and it was an absolutely elegant and unexpected treat. They say they want to compete with the finer inns of Quebec and Montreal and having spent time in both those areas I can say without hesitation that they do.
The staff was very professional, very friendly and quite helpful, and the beds, bedding and showers were a real treat. We have been there twice and both times our room had a beautiful tile shower, one was a walk in grotto shower with a rain shower head.
As excited as we were by finding the Inn, we were just as excited to find so many really great things to do, so close to the inn. You'll want to bring a passport, since there are so many of them are across the border - which is a few blocks from the inn. 10 minutes from the Inn was a championship golf course in Edmundston. We also discovered a world-class jazz and blues festival in Edmundston, a terrific botanical garden where we had an incredible breakfast, a 100 mile long bike trail and we've just started exploring. There is even whale watching on the St Lawrence River an hour and half away. We didn't get to do that on this trip, but we will be back!
