“basic motel and over priced”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 7, 2010

There are many choices of lodging on the downeast coast of Maine, but it is not always easy to sort out the various inns, motels, and B and Bs between Eastport and Bar Harbor. Next time, I will try harder. For $90, we got a $50 motel room. No charm. Clean but 1960s like. The best part was the view of the Machias River from the sliding door, as the tide came in.

We only intended to stay one night as we drove back south and west, so it was not a great loss.

Bo1ked for two nights on arrival told a mistake was made and only 1night available. We were told there was nothing they could do. When asked about another hotel, the clerk answered "How should I know! I've never stayed there.

We stayed only a single night as we used this as a jumping off point for our Puffin trip out of Cutler.

The Inn was clean, the staff friendly, the room clean, the view nice, a good overnight location.

As an added bonus there is a restaurant in the parking lot and a dunkin donut with early hours just a walk down the highway.

The rooms are very clean and the staff we met were very nice and friendly. We rented the family suite/efficiency at 120$/night. 2 full size beds and a pullout. The room is enormous and backs to the Machias River with a lovely view. The layout is...odd, with a huge wasted space entry way that is yours but outside the actual door. The room is huge-the beds should be bigger than full size-2 kings would easily fit and the room would still look big. Mattresses are nice but the box springs are ragged, uncovered with pieces hanging off. Furniture, etc are cheap as is the commercial carpet. Wall unit AC seems like it would be a loser on very hot days. Very, very clean rooms-even the corners, etc. FYI the town itself seems to be a bit shady after dark, particularly the park at the falls where we encountered 2 alcoholics at dusk.

I booked the hotel for the 3rd-5th of july 2010, I was skeptical because usually small town motels can be not so great but the Machias Motor Inn was perfect.
Large Comfortable beds, a microwave, a small refridgerator, free Wi-Fi and a good sized HD flat screen tv.
Our room was spacious, Clean and overall perfect.

The Staff was extremely friendly and right outside the front door provided some of the best seating for the fireworks.
There's even a rear balcony that provided a great view of the Machias River.
Within walking distance is helens restaurant, a few small ice-cream stands, a dunkin donuts, subway, Chinese restaurant, a bar and a 24 hour Irving station.
The Machias Motor Inn is in a perfect location, its even situated near a large atv path that is great to walk on, next time I will bring my quad.

For 94$ a night you cant go wrong with the machias motor inn, my friends and I will definitely stay there in the future when we travel up north.

After driving from Boston to down East Maine, the Machias Motor Inn provided a great haven after a long day "in the saddle". The check-in was courteous and efficient, parking was easy and convenient, the room was clean and had a great view, and was pet friendly.
Although not affiliated with the hotel, Helen's restaurant is located right next door and is yummy and cheap.
The wooden planking on the walkways for the 2nd floor of the MMI tend to resonate when walked upon (especially by innebriated wedding guests in dress shoes), but this does not detract from the overall convenience and value of this well run and maintained hotel.
If I'm staying in Machias, I'm staying at the Machias Motor Inn.

Clean motel with great view of the river, spectacular sunrise! The rooms were a little dated but clean and friendly front desk staff. Restaurant next door was good.

  • Liked — View from the room
