After driving from Boston to down East Maine, the Machias Motor Inn provided a great haven after a long day "in the saddle". The check-in was courteous and efficient, parking was easy and convenient, the room was clean and had a great view, and was pet friendly.
Although not affiliated with the hotel, Helen's restaurant is located right next door and is yummy and cheap.
The wooden planking on the walkways for the 2nd floor of the MMI tend to resonate when walked upon (especially by innebriated wedding guests in dress shoes), but this does not detract from the overall convenience and value of this well run and maintained hotel.
If I'm staying in Machias, I'm staying at the Machias Motor Inn.

Clean motel with great view of the river, spectacular sunrise! The rooms were a little dated but clean and friendly front desk staff. Restaurant next door was good.

There are not a whole lot of choices, and this was 1 of 2 here on Tripadvisor, so I went with that one. It is a motel, and a bit dated, but at $75/night it is clean and everyone is friendly. If you need a place to stay, I would recommend it. Helen's (one of the few restaurants in the area) is in the same parking lot, and even delivers lunch or dinner to the motel. The waterviews are really outstanding.

We were traveling down Rt. 1 in Maine. We were getting near the end of our day, and the GPS listed a few motels in Machias Maine. We stopped at the best looking one, The Machias Motor Inn. The price was reasonable the room great (with new plasma TV) and the view incredible. We got one of the “New Rooms” that had been completed 6 weeks ago. (Rms. 36,37,and 38.) We were in room 38 and they told us it had a kitchenette, which turned out to be a full kitchen complete with pots and pans. The back of the room opened onto a large shared deck complete with deck furniture. From the deck, you had a view overlooking the Machias River complete with water birds, seals, and the giant tides common to the area. We took a million pictures of the sunset and sunrise from the deck. They don’t offer Continental Breakfast like the chain motels, but there is a restaurant (Helen’s) directly across the parking lot with excellent food. We ate both dinner and breakfast there. The pie was great. Also there is another full service restaurant about ¼ mile down the street. The owners and staff were very helpful. Be sure to reserve or stop early, they sold out to travelers, construction workers, and business people the night we were there.

From the hotel photos on their web site it looks like they all have a river view - they DONT. I ended up with a small window and view of a building next door. There are very few rooms that don't have a view - but I ended up in one of them. Our room was also musty smelling, had an old AC unit, older furniture that has seen better days. The bed was pretty hard and the pillows totally flat - bring your own. It was clean, just a bit old. There was also a weird set of stairs to get to our room - the stairs were inside & also very musty smelling but then we went back outside to get to our room (not shown on the photos of their hotel on the web site) Looks like some sort of a weird addition to the building.

The good things - great shower, nice towels, and they had shampoo, mouthwash, and hand lotion. The bathroom was ugly but it worked well.

The small, looked like from the 1950's one piece kitchenette, we didn't really use other than the fridge. The faucet dripped and you had to turn the handles a weird 360 to turn it on and off. They do have a microwave (didn't use) on a small dining table and coffee maker - and they were nice enough to leave multiple packets of coffee. We didn't need a kitchenette but they seemed to have everything from salt and pepper, to Tupperware and cooking pans and utensils.

The river view rooms looked nice - you could park in front of your room, your front door faced the parking lot, but then each had sliding doors out to the back facing the water, with plastic deck chairs. Looked like a nice place to hang out. Too bad we couldn't have one..... the hotel was booked solid each night.
