“Don't let the website fool you!”
Review of Ducktrap Kayaking

The website for Ducktrap is very plain but don't let that stop you from doing business with them. The service is great and the prices were awesome! We were able to fit 2 kayaks on our mini cooper with the help of the owner and some straps. He was so helpful and even recommended a place to stop and get sandwiches to bring on our adventure. I would definitely do business with Ducktrap again

Dan provides the best kayak service. We just finished a trip to mid-coast Maine. Myself and another chaperon brought nine High School boys on the service trip to volunteer for Habitat for Humanity. A few months before the trip, i called many kayak rental services. I explained why we were going to be in Maine, the age and size of our group, and asked for advice. None of them seemed to care and just blandly explained their 2 hour service and expensive prices (ouch). Talking with Dan at Ducktrap Kayaking was a breath of fresh air. He proactively made recommendations based on the size and age of our group and even explained which tours and locations would bore teenagers, etc. His recommendations sounded well thought out, so we booked our kayak rentals. We met Dan at his shop. He had all the personal flotation devices laid out ahead of time, and the kayaks were already in his truck ready to go. We were in and out of the shop in no time, and soon following him to the lake. We all had a perfect time.

I agree with Indiebutterfly. Who really cares if the website is plain. You don't judge a book by its cover. Quite frankly, I prefer to deal with someone who focuses on their business service and NOT a flashy web site. Dan is a great guy, very friendly, and honest. We told the folks at Habitat about our experience and said they should recommend Ducktrap Kayaking to any future groups looking to rent kayaks. My plan is to take my entire family to the Camden area in August. We will definitely rent kayaks from Dan at Ducktrap Kayaking. You should too!

We took a group of family kayaking on Megunticook Lake the day before our wedding, and everything about it was perfect. Everyone had a great time, even my mother who was a first timer.

Don't be put off by their lack of advertising or the outside appearance of the shop, all of Dan's efforts go into service and equipment. The price structure is very reasonable and simple, Dan will pickup/drop off boats, point out the swimming holes and picnic spots, and make sure everyone knows what they are doing. This was a true Maine experience.

We spent our honeymoon touring round New England and, while staying in Camden, decided to try kayaking round lake megunticook. The Inn we stayed at recommended Ducktrap Kayak and, as it was only a few miles down the round, we took a trip to see the owner, Dan. As we had no way of transporting the kayak (a double sea kayak) to the lake ourselves, Dan arranged to deliver it to the entry point. Everything ran on time, was priced competitively, and the equipment was in good condition. A straight forward service but carried out well and with the minimum of fuss. Don't be put off by the fact that the company doesn't really have a website, it's efforts are clearly put into doing the simple things well. The kayak around the lake itself was amazing. We were very lucky with the weather, and being the start of the season, we had the lake to ourselves for most of the morning (save for the herons and snapping turtles).
