We stayed in cabin 7 . It is so small three people can't stay there and be comfortable. The website pictures are so untrue. They make it seem larger that it is. The bathroom is tiny, you need to step into the bedroom in order to close the shower door.

We know your party of 3 arrived unsuited for the cottage booked given 2 persons required handicap facilities which cottage 7 is not equipped for. However, regularly parties of 4-6 persons stay in cottage 7 without complaint - families, couples traveling together, singles, etc. I hope you will put into context that the cottage photos show each room in the cottage - there are two bedrooms, an adjoining bathroom, sitting area with TV, sofa, table/chairs and kitchenette inside plus a deck with chairs outside. We helped you find a larger unit at another property as soon as we became aware that your needs did not match the cottage you booked. We know you had to stay one night because the other property didn't have immediate availability. This doesn't make cottage 7 horrible, it just makes it a no-match for your particular needs. While we knew in advance that one person in your group was in need of assistance in navigating the cottage, we were unaware that a second person required complete handicap accessibility to a much greater extent than is suitable for most coastal properties. This cottage is not our handicapped accessible cottage (which was unavailable during your stay and not large enough for 3 persons). It does have, however, a suitable bathroom for the needs of seniors and those with disabilities and should be booked when persons have such needs. We're sorry you had a bad night having to cope with two persons with such needs. We can understand that it didn't help you to enjoy your stay with us.

1930's motel meets rustic cabin
Positive:
It's cute and the cabins furthest from the highway are quiet.

Negative:
Overpriced- $750 for four of us for two nights (two cabins), the owner refused to honor the advertised AARP discount.
Uncomfortable- No queen or king beds, beds are hard with some kind of sweaty plastic mattress cover.
Small- the fridge is by the bed (we had to unplug it to sleep). The stove is a curious afterthought, a few dishes that would have to be washed in the bath basin.

We are happy to own a vintage Maine property with classic cottages that have been updated considerably from when we purchased the property two years ago. We have several cottages with queen beds: 4, 5, 6, 9, and 11 and two motel rooms. At the time of your reservation, they were already booked. When we have the opportunity to update bedding, we have changed to queens if suitable to the unit. Our rates are posted on our website as are our policies regarding discounts. Had you booked with us directly you would have been eligible for the AAA or AARP discounts. The rate you stated in the review is not what your cottages cost for your stay. Your bill was $660 plus tax for a two-bedroom cottage with kitchen and a one-bedroom cottage with kithenette for two nights. These rates are well below other similar properties in our region of the state.

We were originally booked for a smaller cottage with a double bed. My companion is 6'4" so we were given cottage #11 instead at no extra cost. We were headed along the coast to our final destination of Bar Harbor. We happened to be traveling one of the hottest weeks In Maine. The cottages have no a/c (I don't think there is a/c in any of the units including the motel). They did have a small floor fan and a celing fan which helped until the sun went down. This motel is also pet friendly. Having to keep windows open, one of our neighbors had a barking dog. Luckily the dog did not bark during the night.

Room Tip: The motel unit is closer to busy Route one. The cottages are located further back from the road so w...

Just an FYI - AC was installed this week in several cottages in addition to those that already had AC...Cottages with AC are: 2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 9, 10, 11. Cottages 3, 6, and 12 have AC upon request - we have portable floor units. We're sorry you arrived before the AC units did for your cottage.

The place is beautiful , very well kept and the prices are the lowest in the area for sure. We booked one of the hotel rooms for $100 a night for a couple and a teenage daughter. The property is on the 2 lane highway so you do hear traffic rolling by, but the views are awesome. The room was nicely decorated and comfy just the whole room tends to shake whenever someone walks by (we were upstairs). The bathroom is tiny and there is a nice basic breakfast served every morning. Camden & Belfast are nearby and it is a lovely area.

We stayed one night at the Bay Leaf Cottages. Unfortunately we didn't book one of the cottages, but ended up in one of the motel-type rooms at the front of the cottages and next to Route 1.
Staff was very friendly. The rooms were small but clean and despite route 1 that runs 100ft from your bedroom, and the VERY noisy rooms we had a good night sleep. The rooms are nicely decorated (if you like quilted blankets and Nautica-type stuff), but the bathroom could use some updates.
In the morning the was a rather basic but ample breakfast in a room called 'Bistro', a nomenclature that is slightly pretentious. They have free WIFI, but signal strength is crap, and from were I was staying I couldn't get download speeds higher than 600kbps. It puzzles me why many of these lodgings do not get better directional antennas, use the present power lines/sockets to extend their signals, or place wireless amplifiers throughout the facilities....
Overall price/quality was OK

Room Tip: If you are going to stay in the Motel-type rooms, DO NOT stay in the ground level ones that have a 1...

WIFI - we've spent weeks trying to get our computer service to order a suitable antenna system to increase our WIFI signal on the property but many options have failed despite earnest efforts. Ipads will have less capability with boosted signals as the device does not have an internal booster like a laptop does. Our technician has been onsite twice this week and more hardware was ordered. Still, all guests are welcome to sign out a laptop from our library and use their technology in the bistro, picnic area, library or living room of the house - the public spaces for guests where the WIFI router is located.

What a great time we had at Bay Leaf. The property is beautifully remodeled, each cottage tastefully decorated. Jane is more than helpful with maps, great ideas and general knowledge of the area. This is truly a Maine experience. The quaint cottages are set back from the road and you can hear some road noise, but nothing that bothered us. A breakfast was also included. Fresh hot coffee, cereals, fruit, hard boiled eggs, English muffins and toast. Plenty of juices too. Everyone was very accommodating and friendly and you cannot beat the price. A great value for sure.

Room Tip: Ask for the cottages in the back row...they are further from the street and well shaded.
