I spent Labor Day weekend at the Enchanted Nights and was very pleased with the cute decor, the friendly owner, and the upstairs deck. Enchanted Nights had movies and guidebooks for guests' use and was located conveniently close to the river, many restaurants, and not too far from Portsmouth. The B&B was a perfect romantic getaway for a weekend.

To call this place a dump would be an insult to dumps everywhere. We had the unfortunate experience to stay in the Victorian room. The entire bathroom has a severe lean towards the street, with giant cracks in the wall. I intend to report this to the local building and safety dept. The place should be condemed.

The bed was dirty, hard and uncomfortable. The pillow cases haven't been washed in ages. There were cobwebs on the ceiling. The room and entire house is filled with a lot of dusty old crap. There was no hot tub, internet connection or fireplace in our room. The walls were covered in puple stripes and the ceiling was painted to look like blue sky and clouds. There were boxes of personal items stored under our bed. There were moths and other insects in our room. The bathroom towels consisted of two ratty old towels that they never replaced.

As we arrived another couple was leaving in disgust. They said they found old, dirty sheets with dog hair on them. You risk your life trying to get out of the driveway, because of a large hedge that needs to be trimmed or removed.

Breakfast is not served until 9 a.m. and there was no early morning coffee service. Breakfast consisted of measly, greasy portions that you had to scoop out yourself. Most of the guests got up early and went into town to get their own coffee and breakfast.

The innkeepers, Peter and Nancy, should not be in this business. We saw Nancy only twice in three days. Each time she was in a bathrobe and unkempt. Peter is rude and curt. This place has none of the niceties we were used to from other B&B's. We paid almost $400 for this nightmare. Do yourself a favor and stay away!!

  • Liked — Checking out and getting the hell away from it.
  • Disliked — The hosts and the creepy feeling you were being watched.

My fiance and I have visited many Bed and Breakfats in the New Englad Area and were excited to celebrate a special night away during the winter months. This was by far the worst bed and breakfast we have ever stayed at! Our room was freezing-there is no central heating and it was -5 out...the space heaters hadn't been turned on in time and when we complained, were told to go to dinner...it was 4 in the afternoon, or get in the jacuzzi tub, as if we wouldn't freeze first. The room was large, but very cluttered and not at all welcoming and the hard, cold floors made walking around virtually impossible. Upon complaining further we were offered little sympathy, but against our better judgment decided to stick it out. The breakfast was miserable, as was the entire experience. After reading some of the other reviews that completely matched our sentiments...it does seem perfect for a horror movie...we felt we needed to share our disaster as well. Beware and stay away!

When we arrived, we were optimistic because the house was older and looked as though it had a lot of character. Once we got inside, I was questioning some of the good reviews I had read about this place. The house looked like a junkyard for antiques and crafts and it smelled like a cross between cat urine, mildew, and nursing home. Thinking that this B&B was the last night of our vacation and the fact that we were leaving first thing in the morning for the airport, I paid for the room. (Proof of temporary insanity) So after being greeted by a man and being led to our room by his mother, I couldn’t help my mind from thinking about the movie Psycho. The rooms were so cluttered with old dusty antiques that most doors did not fully open. But the doors did come with a deadbolt lock (you will definitely need these). The only thing missing was the pipe organ music. This place was just creepy. So much so that we didn’t feel comfortable even taking a shower. On a side note, we were very happy to see another couple in a room next to ours (within screaming distance). Anyway, the fact that we were unable to sleep made it very easy for us to get to the airport early. This place makes you really appreciate the little things in life, like a sunrise. If you do decide to stay here, I would sleep in shifts just to be safe.

Wow! After spending much time reviewing the inn's website, we thought the place would be a wonderful, romantic getaway for our anniversary. We had a bit of difficulty finding the place, initially and asked the police for directions. They actually smirked when we asked where the address was and wanted to know had we stayed there before. When we did arrive, we were shocked. The place was atrociously misrepresented. The innkeeper greeted us, coughing, rude, unwelcoming. We had booked the best suite, when we entered, a moldy, musty smell immediately assaulted our sense of smell. As if that wasn't bad enough, as I suffer from allergies to mold, the room was a disarray of stained antique textiles. The entire room was dirty. I was so disgusted by the poor sanitation that I neither sat nor put my bag down. The hotub had remnents of the last guest's hair, furniture was chaotically placed and mismatched. Very poor use of antiques. The "fireplace" was an absolute joke. Anyhow, when we complained, the innkeeper was curt, terse and refused to show us another room. We left when he refused to acommadate us, staying further up in Ogunquit. We appealed to our credit card company and prevailed. I wish I had my camera to post photos to support my view. We fully understood why the police officers were smirking at us...Do yourself a favor...avoid this dirty, unpleasant B&B!

What a charming home!
This was our first time at a B&B, and it was an unforgettable experience. Enchanted Nights is located in a quiet little town in Southern Maine, which made for a peaceful nights rest.
We stayed in a room which is in the house next door to the main house. The room was appropriately named, "Bella", which it most certainly was! The room has a whirlpool tub, fireplace, and the most comfortable feather bed. The decor in this place was amazing, and the breakfast was to die for!
The room we stayed in was extremely clean, as was the rest of the main house, which we had a lovely tour of after our delicious breakfast.
Peter and Nancy were our lovely hosts, and were very accommodating.
We will definetely stay again, and you should stay too!!

Richard and Peggy.

Peter and Nancy own Enchanted Nights B & B. They were friendly, warm and welcoming. I loved the quaint and rustic atmosphere. My stay consisted of five nights and I had several opportunities to speak with them on a personal level. They keep the inside of the property extremely clean, offer information about the surrounding areas and are very concerned for each guest to have a wonderful stay. I personally prefer B & Bs over big hotels. I worked in a very large hotel for 13 1/2 years as the head concierge and am in tune with excellant guest service skills. I highly recommend Enchanted Nights to anyone looking for a comfortable, friendly and personal stay.

  • Liked — How personal Nancy and Peter were and the antiques
