“Still going after 10 years”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 26, 2007

Can't believe we have been going to this wonderful B and B for 10 years now. The Inn tends to be on the higher side of pricing, but there is a reason, expert care is given to every room. Guests are given all amenities, robes, refrigerator, free beverages in every refrigerator, cookies upon your arrival, great afternoon snacks and beverages.....and the list goes on and on.

The staff at the Inn goes out of their way to be accommodating including a new twist this year . A young greeter when you enter the parking to offer a water bottle and free help with your luggage.

Breakfasts are outstanding and absolutely unique, we have not had the same breakfast twice in all our years.

The morning Breakfasts are served in the working kitchen with the cooks greeting you and of course very friendly and more than accommodating.

The location is superb as well as restaurant choices in the area including great "lobsta" houses.

It has been hard finding a match for this gem in our travels.

Captain Lord Mansion was by far the nicest place we have ever stayed! We stayed in the Regulator and Mousam rooms. They were both amazing. Everything was so clean and fresh! The owners met us at the door and gave us a tour of the inn. There weren't any annoying check-in procedures- just sign the guest book. We were taken up to our room where we were shown how to use the jacuzzi tub and heated floors. To our surprize there was a bottle of champagne and a box of chocolates as a gift for our anniversary.
We had to move to a new room the next day because tthe Regulator was not available both nights. The staff came and moved our luggage, and even got out stuff out of the fridg. and moved it to the Mousam.
I went to the front desk to ask if we needed to make reservations at Mabel's Lobster Claw, and the receptionist had them on the phone making our reservation in less than 10 seconds! Amazing! She even knew my name without asking. The best customer service I have ever seen!
The coffee machine is the best! Coffee, cappuccino, lattes, anything you can imagine 24 hours a day, all at the touch of a button! And free high-speed internet! They even have a computer and printer for guests to use for free of course!
Breakfast was fine, we are not really breakfast people. Overall the experience was wonderful. I'm sure we will be back to stay again!

My husband and I just returned from spending a night at the CLM. The only downside was that it was only one night. We absolutely loved this place. The staff was extremely gracious and friendly, not one bit stuffy. We liked the fact that there was art work for sale, since we were in the market for a few paintings and we did buy one. I loved browsing through their gift shop and was able to find the perfect gift for someone special. The location was perfect, just a very short stroll to the shops. We would definitely love to go back. I too, was concerned about the communal breakfast table set up. I should not have been. The three couples seated at our table were lovely. We had a great time discussing what we had seen in the area and it was so nice meeting them. The food at breakfast was wonderful. The innkeepers have thought of everything to make our stay perfect. They even supply complimentary water, sodas and juice in the room. Such a thoughtful thing to do. The only reason that I would not recommend this place is that with so many glowing reviews it may be difficult to book. Oh, and the inn was full and we did not hear any noise of any of the rooms.

  • Liked — The room we booked was great. It was spotless and the amenities were perfect.
  • Disliked — There was not one thing that I disliked about this place.

I was on a business trip, but I decided to make the most of it, so I booked a great room (Union Suite) at this fabulous hotel. Off the main road, it's only three short blocks from the shops and restaurants of Kennebunkport. The room was spacious, clean, and luxurious - fireplace, jacuzzi, and all! I can't imagine a better place to stay anywhere in Maine.

We loved every detail of this fabulous inn! Every amenity you can imagine, a nice in room wine list, yummy afternoon snacks, robes you never want to take off and the most comfortable beds. Thanks for making our stay special.

We were returning guests to the Captain Lord. Normally, we would be among the reviewers on trip adviser that rave about the place. However, this last trip has us questioning if we will ever return. This review probably sealing it as No.

During our stay we were awaken at 3:30am by the fire alarm & the sounds of our fellow guests evacuating from the inn. After standing outside in the late February night air that only Maine can offer & a brief visit by the local Fire Dept, we were told we could go back inside the inn for a head count. Forty five minutes after the whole ordeal we were told everything was okay and we could go back to our rooms.

The next day while trying to catch up on the previous nights excitement with a nap, we were awaken every 15 min by the alarm company testing the system.

Not much of a mention was ever made of the incident, aside from a quip by staff at next mornings breakfast "that is must of been the ghost". Upon checkout by one of the inn keepers, no mention of the event was made until we asked about what triggered the alarm. At the very least, an apology should have been given and certainly no offer of any kind of reimbursement for the inconvenience was mentioned. Not being the type of people to make a fuss, we decided to savor the remainder of calmness of our weekend getaway & take it for what it was "an experience".

Upon reflection, I write this cautionary review to let you know should something go wrong, don't expect anything unless you speak up about it! The non squeaky wheel approach will not get you anywhere here, as you can read.

Unfortunately, I walk away jaded, and certainly disappointed. Sorry

Being human, we can sometimes be unaware of our need to communicate better with guests when emergencies happen, such as this event with the false alarm in the middle of the night. We regret not apologizing to each and every guest that suffered through this event. Also, we regret that we didn't offer some sort of compensation, such as a reduction in the room rate for the disturbance both in the evening and during the day. We truly regret that we left such unpleasant feelings with a regular guest; they probably will not return. Since this event three years ago, we have tried to do a better job of handling emergencies and compensating guests for unpelasant stays.

I chose the Captain Lord Mansion as a birthday weekend for my husband. We were booked in the Oriental room and loved it. The mansion is beautiful and our room was very comfortable. We wanted to steal the bed and bedding because it was so comfortable. My husband was a bit surprised that there was no tv in the room but we survived and actually enjoyed the quite except for the crackle of the fireplace.

We found the innkeepers and staff very friendly and look forward to returning and staying in another one of the beautiful rooms.
