“Still going strong after 30 years”
Reviewed July 13, 2008

I've been staying with Rick and Bev at the Capt. Lord since the mid- 80's. It's always been the highlight of any Maine trip I've been on. This year we happened to be there for the 30th anniv. of The Capt. The Capt. Lord not only is one of America's finest Inns it's an inn in continual motion. I've never been there that something was not being built, just been redone or repainted. Although part of the Maine history these folks never site on their past. We were in the Daniel (green) room this June. It's the first stay away from the main house. What a treat!!! Love it!!! We're booked for next year same time in June. We're counting the days. Please tell Holly hello for Sue and Nick. We'd love to bring her south she just couldn't learn to say "ya'll". All the best, Nick Greene and Sue Powell Augusta, Ga. July 13, 2008

P.S. We had our photo taken as part of the 30th anniv. package, by the way we ordered but never received our copy. Please feel free to use the one of us taken on the front steps. All the best, Nick greene78@comcast.net cell: 706.306.5786

We just returned from a few days at this wonderful Bed & Breakfast. I have never been to one before and I wasn't sure I was going to like it. My sister and her family presented us with a gift certificate as a wedding present and it was a recommendation from friends of hers. I first took a tour of Captain Lord's in February with snow on the ground and I so fell in love with the atmosphere of the Mansion, the whole decor and wonderful fireplaces. I booked our trip then but wanted to visit when it was warmer so we could enjoy the coastline and beaches. From the moment we arrived I was able to relax (which is usually hard for me) from sitting on the porch of the cottage house, long bicycle rides, to just relaxing on the beaches. Our room was meticulous which I have to say all of the grounds were. I want to say thank you so much to the staff, and the owners Rick and Bev for making our stay so enjoyable. Their eye for detail to make you feel pampered is just amazing.

We have stayed in many inns in New England. This is one of the best. They greet you on arrival and make sure that your stay is relaxing and fun. The rooms are well decorated and the bathrooms are nice. My wife loved the linens and toiletries too. I would unreservedly recommend this inn.

We stayed for two nights in the Cactus Room on the third floor. We looked at 6 or 7 of the other rooms while they were being cleaned and they were all very nice---except the Union room which was a little dark. The breakfasts were both unbelieveable----especially the sticky buns. Dave and Rob---the breakfast hosts--- were very attentive and nice. Rick the innkeeper was also very nice and quickly rebooted the "public computer" when I pointed out that it was not working. Anne initially greeted us and gave us a nice tour and was very pleasant each time we saw her. The furnishings and artwork throughout the inn are fabulous and the bed and bath linens are top notch. Great location---easy walk to town. This is a real plus since parking is so difficult in Kennebunkport. We highly recommend the Captain Lord Mansion and we hope to return there.

  • Liked — The nice staff and the breakfast.
  • Disliked — Nothing---everyting was perfect.

We spent 3 wonderful nights in the Regulator Room. The heated bathroom floors, spacious room and incredible furnishings made this one of our favorite stays ever. The great breakfast offerings, spectacular customer service and quiet location really made this an outstanding choice in Kennebunkport, it is now easy to see why guests return over and over (and over!) again.

The Captain Lord Mansion was the third 4 diamond and select registry B & B on our honeymoon. CLM easily surpassed them all. The breakfast was wonderful and the staff went above and beyond, time and time again, to meet all of our needs. My wife and I cannot express in words how comfortable and elegant the rooms were. The beds felt like clouds and we slept like logs. Each room has its own special charm and character that will not disappoint. We also experienced two of the most relaxing spa treatments either of us have ever had. CLM is a polished diamond that will leave you wanting more. We were sad to leave, but plan on visiting again and again.

  • Liked — The comfort and elegance of our room.
  • Disliked — Controlling the room temperature was not easy.

We recently stayed at the Captain Lord Mansion, in the Garden House to be exact. The room was beautifully decorated, but yet very functional and comfortable, with a gas fireplace and a small LCD tucked away in a cabinet. The bathroom had a heated floor and a great shower, and comfy robes. The common rooms in our building were cozy and relaxing. The main inn seemed like it might be a little more formal.

Breakfast was very good - we had breakfast one day in the Garden house, which was delightful. The next day we had breakfast in the main inn, which was a bit crowded for my taste, although the breakfast itself was excellent.

The people were friendly and very helpful - not at all snooty or stuffy. They seem to genuinely enjoy having you stay with them.
The location is fantastic - within walking distance of shops and restaurants.

One of the nicest inns we've ever stayed in. I hope to go back again soon.
