“A wonderful place to stay - Top Quality”
Reviewed October 17, 2013

My wife and I enjoyed a 2 night B&B stay here on our self drive tour of New England. From the warm welcome we received on arrival to our departure everything about this place was just brilliant. We had the Katahdin room on the top floor and it was lovely, comfortable and very clean with lovely bedlinen, TV, clock radio etc and good quality toiletries. The lounges and dining room are delightful and the attention to detail throughout the place has to be seen to be believed. The standard of food is excellent including the complimentary afternoon tea. Complimentary tea, coffee and bottled water is always available as is brandy and port. This beautiful building is ideally positioned just a short walk from the centre of the charming little town of Kennebunkport where there are a handful of restaurants plus shops. The only downside for people who are perhaps not as sociable as ourselves may be the fact that breakfast, which is served in 2 sittings, is served on a (rather grand) dining table seating eight so, unless you can grab one of the other, smaller, tables you may have to engage in some early morning conversation!

A very warm welcoming Inn. Charming upscale facilities, especially at the mid and upper priced level. All rooms are more than adequate and my wife and I would willing stay in any one of them.
Afternoon tea is splendid and the three course breakfasts are real treats. We have stayed there four different times and are planning to return next October. Kennebunkport and the surrounding area is quite attractive that time if year and the summer crowds are gone but most everything is open. The Inn seems to be a favorite place for visitors from the United Kingdom, most of whom have spend time in the USA before. You will not be disappointed if you chose to stay there.

Room Tip: Go on the web to view the rooms and at the same time talk to the staff to get their opinion.

There is no higher compliment than to have guests return time and time again. Welcoming familiar faces is also one of the greatest pleasures of innkeeping. We are so happy to know that your fourth visit was just as enjoyable and relaxing as your first. Thank you for your kind words. We look forward to welcoming you back next October and for many more Octobers to come!

My husband and I have visited B&B's all over Maine, and the Captain Jeffords Inn is definitely the best we have found in the Kennbunkport area. My husband was in a foot cast this time, so we definitely wanted to be close to everything. We could easily walk to Dock Square shops, the trolley, and restaurants so the CJI was perfect for our situation. The Inn is lovingly taken care of with beautiful landscaping and updated rooms that still honor the historical integrity of the original part of the house which is where we stayed (Chatham Room).

The best part of this beautiful Inn, however, is the warm hospitality shown by all the staff. There always seemed to be someone on call to help with whatever one might need. There was a delicious three course breakfast every morning in the lovely dining room where you could either eat at the main table with others, or sit at a separate table on your own for privacy.

Tea, coffee, and soft drinks were always available along with the most delicious pastries every afternoon in the comfortable sun room. We found ourselves coming back every night after dinner out to that same lovely sunroom for coffee and dessert.

We were there the 1st and 2nd of October, and it was a very good mix of guests. Young couples along with retired travelers with quite a few from England visiting several areas of New England while here in the States. One of the highlights for us was talking with travelers from all over the US and also sharing with those from other countries.

Room Tip: We loved the Chatham Room, because it was on the first floor. It is right by the front door, but th...

CJI is a wonderful B&B. Very clean and very well maintained for a historic home. The staff is fantastic and very accommodating. The location is a perfect walking distance to the town center.
I will stay here again.

We visit Kennebunkport every Fall and fell in love with this B & B. The family that owns and runs it are absolutely wonderful. It's all about the details, and 'The Captain Jefferd's' excels. From the professional staff, who, by the way, have been there since we started visiting, to afternoon tea and snacks - everything is just perfect; and if it isn't, it will be in a blink. The average guest tends to be very very well travelled - many from the UK. All in all, just a lovely experience and a great location to tour. Also, the grounds are amazing. If you garden, you'll love it.

Room Tip: Some are pet friendly so call.

This was the first Inn we stayed at on our holiday to New England. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of the accommodation the welcome and assistance we received. The Inn is well positioned for strolling to the town. The common rooms are comfortable and provide excellent snacks and beverages of which we took full advantage. The multi course breakfast was a great experience being served at a large table which encouraged interesting conversation with other guests. We will be recommending this Inn to friends who are thinking of touring New England.

My wife and I returned to this Inn for our second time in celebration of our wedding anniversary - the 21st this time around!

We stayed in "The Hideaway" this time - one of the less expensive rooms in the Carriage House attached to the main Inn. While smaller than the main house room we'd stayed in last year, we found its quirky entrance, warm wood finishes, drenching shower, and big comfy quilt most welcoming and comfortable.

The common rooms of the Inn are gorgeous - the coffee-equipped "Sun Room" being our favorite. We even borrowed the Inn's bikes for a ride through town!

Breakfast here is to die for! Multiple course of delicious fruits, breads, and breakfast entrees that leave on totally satisfied. All served before a warm fire at a big table that encourages camaraderie among the guests.

This place is really a treat!

It is always a thrill to help guests celebrate an important milestone, we truly appreciate the opportunity to play a part in making your 21st wedding anniversary special! We are happy to hear that while small, Hideaway served as a charming and comfortable spot to call home during your visit. It is also wonderful to know that the ambiance and the food served at breakfast were a perfect one-two punch for you. We figure a delicious meal combined with the opportunity to meet guests from all over the world equals the perfect way to start the day. Thank you so much for sharing your experience and your lovely review. We look forward to helping you celebrate for many years to come!
