“Beautiful Inn in beautiful Kennebunkport”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 19, 2010

Four of us stayed here for 3 nights as part of our 2 week trip to New England. The Inn is ideally located in a quiet area, a few minutes walk for the centre of the town. Finn is a terrific host, full of information on places to walk to, drive, eat or relax in. His partner Loryn complements Finns front-of-house charm by producing fantastic gourmet breakfasts and cookies! The bedrooms are spotless with fabulously comfortable beds, and the lounge is a great place to sit with a bottle of wine (or a coffee while waiting for the rain to stop) and the local restaurants that Finn recommended were great. We had thought about staying in Ogunquit (20 minutes down the coast) but were so pleased that we chose The Captain Fairfield Inn.

We spent two nights here following a business conference in Boston and it was fantastic in every respect. Personaized service, impeccably clean and a home that is loaded with character. Breakfasts were great and cookies in the evening were a nice treat after a day of traveling. One of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed at.

My wife and I stayed at the Captain Fairfield in June over the Fine Living Festival weekend. Loved every minute of it. We arrived early on really Friday, our check-in day (before noon). Our plan was simply to park our car there and get on our bikes for the afternoon - checking in when we returned. But Finn came right out and helped us with our bags. He showed us the water cooler to fill up the water bottles, and had info on the nearest bike shop in case we needed it (which oddly enough I would on Saturday). Upon return from our ride, he gave us the tour around the place, the most important part being the fresh cookies they put out in the afternoon. Breakfast each morning was fantastic - thank you Loryn. It was a three course affair with fruit, a homemade scone or bread, and a choice between two entrees. I sure enjoyed the French toast with fresh cream and berries. Skipped lunch both days. I would definitely recommend this place to anyone. Clean well appointed rooms. WiFi available. It's right in town so you can walk to everything. Neat old building. The service is great with genuinely nice folks running the place.

My new husband and I spent two nights here on our "mini-moon" and it was truly wonderful. We were both new to the whole Bed & Breakfast experience, and I admit I was a bit nervous about the lack of anonymity you get in a large hotel.

From the moment we arrived, Finn was helpful and informative without being overly involved or pushy. We put our stuff down in our room (beautifully old fashioned looking with some wonderful modern amenities, i.e. TV, gas fireplace, etc) and went for a walk around Kennebunkport.

The next morning we went on a beautiful walk of a loop suggested by Finn that gave us a wonderful sampling of what Kennebunkport had to offer (outside of downtown). It was a great way to start the day.

The breakfasts that Loryn prepared were TO DIE FOR. Typically, we're a cold cereal couple, maybe an omelet on a Sunday, but nothing fancy. Loryn prepared two days of the best breakfasts I've ever had - blueberry lemon scones (moist and delicious), strawberries with an amazing whipped cream topping, blueberry streusel, goat cheese and dill omelet, and amazing whole grain blackberry pancakes.

For our first B&B experience, this was amazing - and we certainly would stay there again or recommend it highly to anyone looking for a vacation with amazing food!

I arrived not having read any reviews of this B&B (my Mom booked it)-and was extremely impressed. My husband and I (in our 30's, from Northern Virginia) and my parents (60's, from St. Louis, Missouri) came here during a one week coastal Maine trip and stayed two nights.

All of the B&B's are rather pricey in Kennebunkport (in the $200+ range)...but you get bang for your buck here. An excellent and unique breakfast of 3 courses between 8:30 and 9:30am. An easy walking distance from town (The Colony and NeoNatum hotels are too far to comfortably walk in the evenings). Great location for starting driving tours along the penninsula. My Mom loved the colonial feel inside the home (old hardwoods)-she said she felt she was staying in the kind of home you usually tour. The bedrooms were nice and cozy with modern amenties-like good wifi, nice bathrooms and AC.

Friendly but not overbearing hosts were very welcoming and gave good travel advice. Staying here really was the highlight of being in Kennebunkport...besides seeing George HW Bush sailing his boat near Walker Point!

Our Kennebunkport 1-night stay was relaxing and pleasurable thanks to the welcoming Innkeepers, Finn and Laurl. Upon arrival, they inquired about our interests and mapped out a walking path for us through amazing mansions. They also had freshly made chocolate chip cookies, coffee, and beverages available for us. Finn provided an excellent casual dinner recommendation - Allyson's Restaurant right in downtown Kennebunkport.

The Inn is convenient to beaches, restaurants, shops, and "Walker Point" (where the Bush estate can be seen). Built in 1813, the Inn has historic charm with modern amenities such as windown air conditioning, DVD with movies, and excellent shower/bath fixtures and toiletries.

The breakfast was superb. We ate a 3-course meal that varies daily. We had fresh-made banana, pineapple, orange juice along with muselix and fresh fruit -- first course. Second course was a maple walnut scone that tasted too good to be homemade at the Inn (but was). We had a selection for our final course. I chose a spinach omelet with multigain toast, and my husband enjoyed belgian waffles with homemade berry compote and homemade sausage. We left full and ready for another day of sightseeing.

The Inn was affordably priced yet comfortable and relaxing. The Innkeepers made sure we didn't want for anything. They even installed a window air conditioner (in mild temps) to make my stay more comfortable.

No need to do a lot of research on restaurants and local sites, Finn is spot on with all of his recommendations. The breakfast is beautifully presented, fresh and out of this world good. You sit at your own table at breakfast and can interact with other guests as much or as little as suits you. The location is within walking distance to town and most of the restaurants. Tthe house is surrounded by trees with song birds waking you in the morning. We celebrated our 30th wedding anniversary in Kennebunkport and could not have made a better choice for accomodations. You would not go wrong with the Captain Fairfield Inn, it is a lovely place.
