“Great Stay”
Reviewed October 2, 2008

My wife and I spent an anniversary at the 1802 House. The accomodations are very nice, and the breakfast was great. The hosts, Jay and Linda, really make this stay special. They were extremely helpful with suggesting things to do and gave us great dining recommendations. Always were willing to spend time giving us assistance.

My husband & I celebrated our 10th anniversary in Kennebunkport, ME. After a good deal of research we booked
the 1802 Inn for 3 nights. We were impressed. The rooms were very clean & comfortable & many extra touches (bottled water, chocolates in our room, homemade cookies that Linda made on a daily basis, etc) made our trip extra special. Breakfast was wonderful. Linda & Jay also helped give us information regarding the area & even made reservations for us for dinner one evening. It was a stay we won't soon forget & if we return to the area we will surely stay at the 1802.

We've stayed at this inn before, through 3 previous owners over the years. The most recent previous owners seemed ready to retire and I think that Jay and Linda's stewardship is going to take the place to new heights, and probably prices. There were several changes that Jay and Linda were making. One was that Linda really was trying to use organic food and she catered to our special dietary needs, which is why we usually stay at Inns or B&Bs. Jay wanted to serve fine wines, when possible. As usual, our room was comfortable and warm in the winter. In previous stays in winter, we have snowshoed and cross country skiied on the adjacent golf course. The previous owner/husband knew how to make make snowshoes in his at-home shop. The new owners are quite different. They bring a different, more sophisticated skill set to the inn. Jay is a former marketing executive, and Linda is a gourmet chef. It was a relaxing stay, with a nice dinner one night at On-the-Marsh, a restaurant not to be missed for fine dining.

  • Liked — Plans of the new owners, the food, the conversation with others at breakfast.
  • Disliked — Nothing.

We just returned today from our 4 night stay at this most romantic, relaxing, and wonderful Inn. We can not say enough about Linda and Jay the proprietors of this New England gem. Upon arriving Jay and Linda greeted us warmly and provided us with extensive information regarding all that Kennebunkport and it's surrounding areas had to offer.

We were then shown to the Sebago Suite and it far exceeded our expectations. The three room suite was lavishly decorated and spacious, from the elegant bedding and furniture to the soft and comfy robes provided. The sitting room with it's stereo, dvd/vcr player, flat screen tv and fireplace knocked our socks off. The Jacuzzi area was just fabulous and a travelers dream. Our private outdoor deck was an added plus. Linda and jay spared no expense on decor and cleanliness.

How can I explain to you the exquisite gourmet daily breakfasts prepared by Linda and served by Jay. Linda took under consideration everyone's dietary needs. Each day was a culinary adventure from the Monte Cristo French Toast to the Banana Pancakes as well as homemade sorbets. One can never forget the Mango Juice prepared by Jay but you will have to find out the story about this one yourself by staying there.

It was so hard to go back home afte this fantastic stay at the 1802 Inn and we can only end by saying thank you beyond words to Linda and Jay.

I LOVE his bed and breakfast. Outstanding service, cleanliness, hospitality, decor and breakfast. Linda and Jay are wonderful: always happy to arrange anything from dinner and flowers to a horse drawn carriage ride. They even sent us picture of us on our carriage ride. We stayed in the Sebago Suite and everything was perfect: the jacuzzi room was clean and so comfortable after a day of walking, the bedroom was cozy and inviting and the sitting area relaxing and was stocked with complementary beverages. The Breakfast...oh the breakfast. Just wonderful. The first morning we had a cirtus fruit cup, a fantastic gingerbread waffle with blueberries, and rice pudding. The second day was watermelon with a honey lime glaze and other fruit, homemade pumpkin break, and a breakfast souffle thing with eggs, homefries and cheese (trust me you will love this one...it's amazing). Each breakfast came with a meat as well the first day sausages, the second ham...Linda and Jay will be happy to avoid meat and other foods if you ask them. Our summer vacation was perfect because of Linda and Jay and the 1802 House. We look forward to visiting again in the Fall!

Our friends and us stayed at 1802 House at the start of our Maine trip. Our hosts were helpful, welcoming, acommodating, knowledgeable about many aspects of the region and happy to share with us helpful tips. The facility is very pleasant and clearly reflects the desire of the hosts to do all they can to ensure a pleasant stay. It is in pleasnt, grassy, riverine surroundings. The hosts are relatively new owners and are clearly striving to improve an already excellent place and send it to the next level. Now even if all of the other things weren't true, which, of course they are, it would still be worth coming to 1802 to experience the breakfast. It was fabulous, and we were treated to a fabulous fruit cup, with magically cinamon sweetened yogurt. This was followed with a generous slice of ham, as well as a "Yankee" scramble with potato and eggs. We were also treated to a freshly baked banana nut bread loaf, which was sliced and wrapped for us to take along for our trip. Our trip was then graced by the aroma of that incredible-tasting bread for hours into the morning after we left -- too soon, too soon. We recommend 1802 unqualifiedly.

This is a very nice inn and it is close to the center of the town and the scenic drives. We stayed in the Windsor room for 2 nights recently. Linda and Jay are great and the breakfasts are very good. The only thing that could make it better is if the tvs were a bit bigger. Other than that the rooms are very nice. We would definitely return on another trip.
