“A hip American bistro.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2009

Bandaloop is a hip restaurant in Kennebunkport that serves up originals with a twist. You'll find great meats, local fish and seafood, and many other great food items. If you're looking for a calm romantic evening, this is not the place...If you're looking to see and hear the chefs prepare your meal in a jazzy environment, this is the place to be. They also have a great wine selection and cozy patio. In the area? Don't miss it.

“Delicious!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 15, 2009

Our B&B reccommended Bandaloop to us when we arrived in Kennebunkport. The food was delicious! The best quesadilla I have ever had outside of Texas!! Other guests also ate there and agreed it was great.

“Great place to shop, eat, and see the sites”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 8, 2009

right by the water, Kennebunkport has some great views to see, but beyond that there are a number of great little shops to wander through and enjoy. There are also quite a few restaurants that have not only excellent food, but service. We ate at Bandaloop and enjoyed absolutely everything about it.

“Had high expectations but were disappointed...”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 3, 2009

Our experience at Bandaloop unfortunately was mixed and not as good as many other reviewers. First, the positives - (1) service - our waitress was very pleasant, attentive and accomodating; (2) the pablano pepper and apple soup was outstanding. Now, the negatives - (1) the peach/shrimp cakes were disappointing - one side was overcooked to the point of almost being burnt, and probably should have been returned; (2) the hangar steak entree was good but the oriental style vegetables (apparently served with all entrees ) did not go well with the southwestern style marinade on the steak; (3) the "panko/horseradish coated halibut" was not actually "coated" but was piece of halibut (albeit generous) with a scoop of the panko/horseradish on the top. Maybe (hopefully?) )we just hit them on an off night? This restaurant does offer a different diing experience for Kennebunkport, and is on the "funky" side, but compared to the many funky restaurants in South Florida, where we are from, it falls short. One final note that left us with a bad taste in our mouth... printed on the menu is a message that says something to the effect of... "don't linger at your table - it may be you standing in the doorway next time..." It wasn't necessary on the night we were there, and it certainly did not match the "laid back" atmosphere they're trying to create.

“'It's all about us, not the customer' arrogance”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 12, 2009

They're clueless about the diner's experience; but just brilliant in cuisine innovation. No surprise, since chef-owner Scott Lee is a talented kitchen vet and knows food. Something about their managers and reception staff, though. After years of success (maybe that's the problem) it's like they think they're doing you a big favor if they get you a table -- an arrogance and condescension when it gets busy. Sort of like the NY Yankees -- We're damn good (the food only, that is) and so we don't care if you hate us. Down at Dock Square, Kport needs more ambience like these, which have a funky SF feel to them. Bohemian style is cool and welcomed. But waitresses lifting under their shirts to scratch their bellies is pushing 'earthy' a bit too far. Even saw the hosts arguing with some poor folks with a lost ressie. Attitude was an unsmiling, you're-basically-SOL-but-only-if-you're-reeeeallly-lucky-then-we'll-help. Wow, whadda they do when they're pissed? That would garner a zero, but I've got to give them 2 stars because the food is so thoughtfully developed, even while the wait staff and hosts are "way out there." Generally, a Lewis and Clark expedition is required these days to find great service -- certainly down the road it's at White Barn Inn, but you got to pay a year's salary there; thus, I suppose Bandaloop can be faulted only half-way. From a company culture perspective, it just has that Bill Clinton attitude -- "If there's a problem, it's never OUR fault." Pity. Such a cool spot, such delicious food (agree with a poster, though who said they seem to run out of stuff too often), funky atmosphere. Just be forewarned: It's all about them, not you.
