The Hurricane is the upscale Maine choice you expect - lots of seafood dishes - nautical stuff on the walls - nice view of the river. But unlike a lot of places in tourist ground zero, the food is terrific. The hard shell clamp appetizer is on our list every time we go. Tried the swordfish on the bartender's recommendation and was rewarded with the best swordfish I'd ever eaten - a thick serving of fish, crispy skin and perfectly cooked inside. Great bar menu, too ... nothing better than watching the Red Sox, working our way through lobster rolls and burgers.

We've found that eating at the bar is a much less formal, much warmer experience than eating in the dining rooms. The bartenders, especially Keith, are great ...

This place is a must visit when in Kennebunkport - food is excellent, wine list is extensive (also pricey in comparison to others) and the view is quaint.

The service can be lousy during extremely busy times. For example, we had dinner here for New Years Eve this year - we thought it would be fabulous. It was among the worst service I've ever experienced. Even the tables around us were complaining, rolling their eyes, etc. The waitstaff we overburdened, the kitchen was very slow and of course then the entire experience was very dissatisfying. Even more concerning is that one would expect, in a restaurant of this caliber, to see the manager making rounds smoothing ruffled feathers, offering explanations or apologies for the terrible service but there was none to be found. We were there for hours and almost walked out.

I highly recommend the restaurant except on New Years Eve. It's not worth the frustration. Pier 77 or On the Marsh are much better alternatives for New Years Eve.

Seeking a good restaurant one April Saturday for a relaxing, celebratory lunch, we headed up to Dock Square in scenic Kennebunkport.
We very much enjoyed : a pan-seared salmon entree, a caesar salad, a fried haddock sandwich..Delicious sweet potato fries. All delicious. Desert was very good. Service was great. The water view also a plus.

We choose this place by looking at the menu in the window. You enter through the bar and are seated in a nicely appointed dining room. The food was very good and the staff effecient and friendly. This is far more than a local lobster place we were expecting. It is a little on the expensive side but well worth it.

We used to drive from Kennebunkport to Perkins Cove to eat in a casual setting with an extensive menu at the ex-Hurricanes at some point during our week in Maine. Now we can just walk to Dock Square for a newer, better Hurricanes. We've never been disappointed. While the onion soup isn't the best I've had, almost everything else I've tried has been quite good. The service is friendly, not prissy or overbearing. We chose to eat there on New Year's Eve because they were not offering a special (read limited) menu, music, or party hats. Our server offered us a glass of complimentary champagne while we perused the menu. The oysters are always excellent. They offer small plates and main courses as well as soup/salad. Since we've eaten there so many times, it's hard to say 'you must try....' but I'd certainly say, "You must try it if you are looking for variety, not tradition."
