Stayed only one night, Sat. no heat, much noise from wedding parties, 2am still at it outside, halls carried all the sounds of people coming and going. For the price it was not worth it and would not stay again. Charge an extra five per day for tips to hotel staff. Just a tired old hotel, with high prices, if you like that go for it.

Excellent room & location but the hotel is pet friendly. We, who are non pet owners took home some fleas without our knowing and now it is causing problems in our house and to the people who live there. Flea bites and such.

If the hotel did not allow pets I would have given it an Above Average rating but with the itching and the cost to remove the fleas, it is not worth it.

I have learned my lesson.

My husband and I just spent a wonderful week at the colony hotel. Our room was quite small but the view was breathtaking. The rooms do get a bit noisy and you can hear dogs barking and babies crying at all hours of the day. The bed was very comfortable and the bedding was very nice. The housekeeping staff was very effiecent and nice. The pool is nice but needs to be cleaned more often. Also it seems like some of the rules that are supposed to be kept in place are not. Hotel guests smoking at the pool as well as being rude by speaking loudly on their cell phones. If guests need to speak on their cell phones then they should do it in their rooms or the parking lot. Also loud children screaming marco polo can dampen a nice and relaxing day at the pool. In years past that was not tolerated and it was nice. It seems as though the employees are too scared to tell the guests what they cannot do.
On to the food. The breakfast buffet is quite institutionalized. It's the same boring breakfast every morning and the food is cold. I liked it much better when you could order off of the menu. I did order off the menu on my last day for 20.00 more. Lunch at the pool did not appeal to me at all. There is much better better food around the corner at Mabels. The gift shop does not even sell a lifesaver. They sell more for dogs than for people. Be smart and bring your own snacks or you will never have any snacks. The colony could bring in more money from their guests if their food was more plentiful, delicious and more available. They really need a food and beverage director to re vamp their food. I would have eaten at the hotel if the food was good but it isn't. We love the colony and it's a charming and beautiful place it just needs to keep the integrity of years past and bring in new food to keep their customers at the hotel more. Mostly everyone leaves for lunch to go somewhere else. It would be nice to offer popsicles to the kids on hot days at the pool. Even the pastries at tea time do not taste so good. When people are on vacation they want to eat well and not have to travel far to get it. I hope that someone from the colony reads this review because it would make us so happy to see a few changes made.

Where to start? Service at the hotel is horrible. We booked on their web-site and it took them about 15 minutes to find the reservation. Front desk staff were not very pleasant nor were they proficient with their own systems. We went to the colony due to the fact that it appears to be a gracious older property from a by gone era. Seems like they did 1/2 a renovation on the place and ran out of money. The rooms need attention. Slow drain in the shower, disgusting. Nothing like paying top dollar to stand up to your ankles in water every morning in the shower. Old and musty bedding. Window paint cracking and peeling, doors not shutting properly, mildew on the wallpaper etc.. OK, on to the dining. Horrible! I don't mind paying a price for a great dining experience, but the dining was expensive and horrific at the same time. Service was also slow and non inviting. The ammenities also are poor. Pool was cold and outdated. Everything seemed run down. 300 a night for this place is crazy. We have stayed at many of the B&B's in this area and will frequent them as opposed to this dump in the future.

i went to this hotel with my husband and children. i found the hotel dirty, in particular the bedding and rugs. the furniture, which is advertised as something special, is what one might find in a thrift shop - used and of poor quality. the hotel is very noisy - it is almost impossible to close a door without slamming it - there is also no food to be had except at posted meal times. with no grocery store within walking distance, this is a problem especially for those with children. the lunch menu is limited. the rooms are very small.
on the positive side, the hotel provides enough for children to be occupied. the location is terrific with beach access just down a path, the hotel pool has a wonderful view of the ocean. there is also shuffleboard and putt putt which keeps children entertained. i cannot, however, imagine coming to this hotel as a single person or as a couple. it is loud, and not relaxing. i would also note that if you don't like dogs , then this is not the place for you.
