“A nice suprise tour”
Reviewed October 5, 2012

It was fun to tour. Its not open to often but I felt that we were treated to a special opening full of History, fun things to look at lots of Art and we were even allowed to sit down while the tour guide gave us a tour. Highly recommend this when its opened

“Private Home - Open to tour for a limited time”
Reviewed October 4, 2012

The Wedding Cake House has fascinated me for 23 years. It is a private residence and is generally not open for touring. On our recent trip to Kennebunkport we were thirlled to discover that the owner is allowing tours until October 15. This is to raise money for the local food pantry. It was great seeing the inside of this historic house and hearing the fascinating story of how it came to be so uniquely decorated. (And no it is not because of a bride abandoned on her wedding day by a seafaring husband as some local legends say.) I did get to meet the owner and spend some time talking to him He was worth the price of the tour alone! (Thank you Jimmy for opening your home! XOXO)

“Fun and Unusual”
Reviewed September 18, 2012

My husband and I had the great luck of visiting relatives in the area when "Jimmy" as folks lovingly refer to him had Opened his unusual and very interesting historic home for a fund raiser. His collection of paintings is outstanding ! The tour guide was excellent, including stories of ghosts, romance and tragedy, as well as historic information. Paintings and drawings were wonderful. Trompe l'oeil style of painting of Mary Burnett throughout the home is not to be missed- be sure to see the refrigerator door in kitchen for an amazing example. Also the "doggie in the window (door) in carriage house that leads to a porch. Mary Burnett also painted exquisite borders on some of the window shades.
Ahh, sadly, we missed the enigmatic gentleman "Jimmy" who we were told was in full red coat/high boots regalia.

Thank you Mr. Barker for your generosity in opening your marvelous home to strangers. Feel so lucky to have been visiting at the time - a once in a life time experience.

I would highly recommend driving by this house. There are also other great homes along the same road.
