“Plates of perfection”
Reviewed August 19, 2014

I have been lucky enough to eat at some of the most famous restaurants in the world but I have never had any dish as delectable as the lobster fettucini at the White Barn Inn. Jonathan Cartwright makes every meal at the White Barn dining room a tour of the tastes of Maine. Taking local ingredients he makes magic by creating complex and elegant meals that are much more than the typical lobster dishes. The lobster spring rolls and the celeriac soup are other favorites. The dining room is the perfect stage for these delightful courses...a fairy tale come true. Rustic beams and elegant windowscapes make beautiful and romantic backdrops while live piano music and twinkling candles enhance the experience. I have visited in Summer and WInter and each season brings special seasonal dishes with a new picture window display that makes each visit a unique experience. During select times the more casual bistro room features menus that include the lobster pizza....need I say more??! A special meal in a special place...this is one of the most special places with some of the best cuisine...simply stated "A MUST!".

“Overrated, Overpriced Restaurant”
Reviewed August 18, 2014

Our hotel personnel recommended that we have dinner at the White Barn Inn, Kennebunk, during our recent vacation stay in Ogunquit, Maine. A credit card is required for a reservation and if not cancelled within a certain timeframe, a penalty fee is charged. We usually choose fine dining restaurants and had never encountered this before.

The restaurant has little ambience and it would best be described as rustic. My wife ordered Gray Goose vodka straight up. She received a martini glass that was only half full and tasted what would be a watered down Gray Goose. To add insult to injury, we were charged $20.00 for that drink.

We decided to have two price fixed meals that included an appetizer, entrée and desert, in addition to a glass of wine for each course, selected by the wait server. Of the six total glasses of wine selected, only two were drinkable. The others were truly poor quality glasses of wine. The appetizers were extremely small, mine was literally the size of a quarter. The entrees (lukewarm) were mediocre and featured very small amounts of vegetables. My wife had five peas on her plate! The desert choices were mostly crème based and both of our choices turned out to be bland and tasteless. The cost of the meals and the wines was $334.00, with a total cost of $405.00 for the complete experience, not including a gratuity. Obviously, the cost of the meal was grossly overpriced.

In addition we felt that the staff at the restaurant was arrogant and condescending. A simple request to move to another table, (the sun was shining directly in my eyes), was met with annoyance even though the restaurant was half empty and remained so for our entire dinner. We have nothing positive to say regarding our dining experience, and would certainly not recommend this restaurant to anyone.

“From Another Time and Place”
Reviewed August 15, 2014

I have been fortunate in my life to dine in many wonderful restaurants around the world. I am happy to say that I can add The White Barn Inn to the list. It really is a special and extraordinary place. When you enter the restaurant you feel like you have just entered a high end restaurant in New York, Chicago, or Paris. We chose the lesser of the two prix fixe meals because I can no longer even imagine eating a 9 course dinner and asked our server, Ryan to create a special wine pairing to go with it, which he did without the slightest objection. I am allergic to red wine so he googled the dessert wine to make sure that it did not contain any red grapes before he served it. Our meal was amazing and beautifully prepared. If you want to go out for a special occasion and you find yourself within 100 miles of Kennebunkport, The White Barn Inn Restaurant is the place to go.
