This is a great little secret. My favorite beach in Kennebunk and walk it every day when I am in Maine. KBIA is a great children's program next door and they maintain a wonderful playground. The beach is small and a new playground is coming next June.

We discovered this beach on this most recent trip to Maine and we fell in love with it. We happened upon it in the morning while just driving around looking at Kennebunkport. We have been here many times, but never down to this area. We saw this little beach and decided to stop.

It was low tide, and the beach was just beautiful. There are rocks tha border each end of the beach, and adjacent to these rocks are smaller areas of rocks with tide pools that the kids and family members can climb and explore. We were there along with about four other families doing the same thing. Kids just love it. There is also a small playground right on the sea wall, so you can keep an eye on the kids whether on the beach or on the playground. The beach is only about 100 yards long from rocks to rocks so the kids cannot run off. The sand is flat so the kids can also run and play. Just wonderful.

This beach is also called Mother's Beach. How appropriate for a small beach where mother's can bring their children to play and keep an eye on them.

There are no permanent bathroom facilites here and that is one drawback, but my wife said the port-o-potty was actuall the cleanest she had ever seen.

We found this on our last day in Maine, so we did not get to come back, but you can bet we will next year!!!

One more helpful hint. Just across the street from the playground is the kennebunk Beach Improvement Association. They have a swimming pool, club house and have a ton of activities for your children during the summer. You have to become a member, but membership is inexpensive at $270 for a family membership for eight weeks. They have classes for your kids each week with separate weekly costs for each one. Check out their web site at KBIA.net for more info. We saw lots of stuff for our boys.
