We hadn't been to this local restaurant in a while and were really glad we went recently on a Saturday night. We prefer to eat in the pub section of the restaurant and snagged the last table. The restaurant section began to fill up quickly but it's apparent a lot of diners enjoy the pub section.

There were no negatives from any of us - our server was very pleasant and prompt. Cocktails were excellent. The soft warm rolls appeared on the table and were quickly consumed - they were excellent. The entrees were diverse - haddock and chips, mussels, a burger, and a seafood ravioli - and each was perfect.

This was the second evening dinner spot we tried on our recent 3 day visit to the area (Kennebunk, Maine.) The restaurant was virtually empty (one other table filled) so the place was nice and quiet--yeah! This is often a bad sign however so we were pleasantly surprised at the result which was a resounding cheers.

Wife had the batter dipped haddock (cooked to perfection) and I had the tortellini with pesto and chicken chunks--excellent! Rolls were pretty good too--often a sign of a restaurant's worth is the quality--or lack thereof--of the rolls/breads. These two main courses we had were only 2 or 3 within our price range! Place is not cheap!

Service was pleasant--chatty waiter when prompted. Homemade caramel ice cream for dessert.

A lovely, quiet, pleasant dinner. Well recommended, if pricey.

Academe, at the Kennebunk Inn, Kenebunk ME is a hidden gem! I had seen on the travel network that there lobster pie was :one of the best things I ever ate" and it WAS! Not your traditional lobster pie (Thank Goodness). This was in a creamy broth with alot of claw and tail meat with peas and potatoes and topped off with a light flakey puff pastry. It was delicious and not too over filling. I will be back! My husband had a salmon pannini that he thought was wonderful and had all the right flavors to enhance the salmon. Great place!! We spend our summers in Maine and we will be back to Academe!! Oh and BTW, the prices were surprisingly reasonable with exceptional food in a casual atmosphere good for couples, friends, or business.

Plain decor, big room, small tables, could be the 1960s. We arrived 10 minutes late for our Open Table reservation and had been booked a 'no-show' and got scolded. Then we were seated and proceeded to have a wonderful meal. Our server was a lady with zest, the food couldn't have been more delicious - the lobster pizza and pot pie live up to the billing, the desserts great, my Beefeaters Gibson was perfection. I'd go again in a heartbeat!

The food is very good here - the sandwiches use real meat not the pressed stuff and you have to try the lobster pot pie
