We ate there on a cold, rainy night. The greeter and server were very conscientious. I had roast duck and my husband had the baked halibut. Both were excellent. Good atmosphere, good food, good service. And the price was not extravagant. What else could you ask for?

We recently discovered Joyce's and while it is clearly the best restaurant in the Augusta ME area, it could stand on its own in any big city. The food is always excellent, fresh, creative, and promptly served. Some waitstaff are exceptionally good, but all have very good standards of customer service. The Onion and Gouda dip is one of the best things I have ever eaten, the mushroom ravioli is very good, and the shrimp appetizer is delicious. All in all, no complaints at all. A great place where you actually see Joyce herself on duty, and you can sit and enjoy the Maine summer on the patio next to the Kennebec.

This was a nostalgic trip to Hallowell, where this guy, now in my 70’s, lived as a child. Joyce’s had received positive reviews, so we had put it on our pre-trip list. When we got there, I discovered that it is where Marquis Radio & TV was located in my youth. We had purchased a TV set there in 1953!

Delightfully we were seated on the deck overlooking the Kennebec River. It was early evening and a delightful setting. We both enjoyed a generous Dewar’s on the rocks and then we both had the Baked Haddock with Creamy Scallion Sauce. Delicious!

We chose Joyce’s rather than Slates across the street because of the deck seating.

When reflecting on the meal later, an offer of crackers with our drinks would have been nice. No bread with the meal was offered either. But we thought the (pre tip) $51 bill for dinner and drinks for two was very reasonable.

The service, prices, atmosphere, and food were all very good. We loved the Baked Onion and Smoked Gouda Dip. The Haddock Baked with Creamy Scallion Sauce was excellent as were all the desserts. We will be back.

The food was pretty good. Service was quite good. Ambiance was good as long as you don't sit close to the door.
