Lodge at Moosehead Lake

Certificate of Excellence

We chose this place because it has won several awards. It also received very positive reviews on Trip Advisor. In general it was an excellent stay. Our room--Totem--was spacious, tremendous view, comfortable bed, excellent cable TV, good air conditioning which we used on occasion. The housekeeping/dining staff were outstanding. The breakfasts were excellent. The property is owned by a couple. We only interacted with Karen, and she was extremely accomodating, friendly, and helpful. We thought it a bit atypical that we never interacted with the other owner. I realized later he had spoken to us once, but he never took the time to introduce himself. I guess we could have sought him out and introduced ourselves, but in our experience this is typically not the way it works at a B and B--at least the onces we have stayed in. Certainly, this may just have been circumstance. In the total scheme of things it was not a big deal--just unusual. The only other thing I want to mention is that in my opinion the price was somewhat high. This is obviously a judgment call, a very subjective opinion, and of course alwasy open to debate. I am just saying that in my opinion, when I compare this property/experience other places we have stayed, and compare it in terms of several variables, it prices out high. Overall, however, I highly recommend The Lodge at Moosehead Lake.

Room Tip: Totem has an absolutely outstanding view.

We stayed at the Lodge in July and were thoroughly impressed with not only the magnificent views and scenery, but the Lodge itself, the food, the innkeepers & staff and the attention to detail. In fact, we've never stayed in a more thoughtfully accommodated B&B. Everything from the guest pantry filled with first rate iced (and hot) tea and fresh chocolate chip cookies to the room with bottled water (free!), incredible cozy robes, a book filled with local hiking trails and instructions on how to get there (the guest pantry also had a hanging ring with directions you could tear off to take with you to find the hike!) and a jacuzzi bathtub. Our meals at the Lodge were also excellent - both breakfast (fruit & yogurt parfait and asparagus and cheese omelets) and dinner (local fish and lobster mac & cheese with superb red wine). Linda, the innkeeper was the perfect combination of informative and friendly but not intrusive. We had a wonderful time and would DEFINITELY return! We were actually sad our stay wasn't longer.

We could feel the peace descend as we made the 3 hour drive from Portland to Moosehead Lake. The traffic became sparse and I swear there was more oxygen in the air (due to all the trees?). On arrival at the Lodge we were awed by stunning sunset views of Moosehead lake. Linda escorted us to the Loon room, which was our sanctuary for 4 heavenly days. The room, and entire Lodge was luxurious in comfort and details yet homey and relaxed. We enjoyed sipping coffee and cocktails on our own private deck while watching wild turkeys and waiting for a stray moose. The breakfasts were all wonderful and ample fuel for hiking and kayaking. The optional dinner service was upscale from the burgers and sandwiches offered in town (a 10 min drive down the road). We left the Lodge feeling rested and rejuvenated. If you enjoy the outdoors but like to feel pampered while on vacation, this is the spot. P.S. hiking in Maine is NOT for wimps!!

Room Tip: Loon room was on the main floor-no steps. Wonderful balcony with views of the lake. Quiet. No fir...

So glad you enjoyed your stay. We just wanted you to know that the Loon room was the last room we did work on prior to opening for the season. We removed the fireplace that was there to add the big window that allowed you to really enjoy the view. This fall (Nov/Dec) we will be adding a fireplace ready for the winter guests that will add that cozy lodge feeling we want for you.

We wanted peace and quietness with all the amenities of home. We got it! The Lodge ran like a well-oiled machine parked in the middle of acres of magnificent mountains and forests, framing a spectacular lake--a landscape masterpiece. We watched the sun come up and set from our windows in the lovely Totem Room, often with the background music of a loon's mournful cry. Our hosts and their staff graciously and efficiently worked to ensure our comfort. Our only complaint? Our stay was too brief!

We booked the Bear Room for a second time, to enjoy the private deck - unfortunately the weather wasn't good enough to sit out for long, and the seat cushions were sodden from the rain! However, we received a warm welcome back and a half bottle of fizz as a thank you for our 4th stay - a nice touch. The room was lovely, with plenty of space and storage. Our three breakfasts were German apple pancake, broccoli cheddar & bacon fritatta and blueberry pancakes: all excellent. And we saw 19 moose in the area!

We only stayed two days but we will definitely go again. My husband and I were very comfortable in our room. The inn was clean and charming not to mention the views of the lake were spectacular. We took a Moose safari and we were very pleased with the guide Linda booked for us - and yes we saw Moose! I think we will go back in the fall next time.

My husband and I recently stayed at the Lodge and had a lovely experience! When we arrived, we were greeted by the owner Linda, who welcomed us in and immediately showed us around the Lodge. We got to our room (we stayed in the Trout room) and there was light classical music playing and the lamps were on giving the room a nice, friendly glow. Linda was also helpful in giving us advice for where to eat dinner that night since the Lodge wasn't open for dinner. They also provide lots of information on local trails, waterfalls, etc. The Lodge really puts effort into the details! Breakfast was wonderful! And if you are there when the Lodge is serving dinner, you are in for a treat (Lobster Mac & Cheese...yum)! My husband and I enjoyed going down to Chloe's Pub at night to play pool or shoot darts. Both Linda and Dennis were very hospitable! My only complaint is that I wish I could have stayed longer!
