“Ultimate escape from the city”
Reviewed October 10, 2013

A few years back, I noticed Moosehead Lake while paging through a road atlas - a large lake in the rugged interior of Maine. I figured it would be a cool place for a vacation or vacation stopover. My wife and I were not disappointed. Serene, peaceful - local residents extremely friendly and genuine. Beginning to see some significant fall color on the surrounding mountains by the last weekend in September. Enjoyed lake cruise on the Katahdin, anniversary dinner and the view at the Blair Hill Inn, and staying at the warm and welcoming Captain Sawyer House.

“Fall foliage and appalachian scenery on the lake”
Reviewed October 8, 2013 via mobile

A nice relaxing trip out on the lake might be just what you need. There is plenty of low relief glacial topography here. The Katadhin sets off by the maritime museum for a 3 hour tour. It is rather low key overall. There is a lot of seating on the deck but few places to be comfortable inside! Dress warmly. Food is available for sale. The boat does not go close enough along the coast to see moose but you might see ducks.

“Wild and breathtaking”
Reviewed October 6, 2013

A beautiful lake in the north of Maine. It is a place more of natural beauty rather than a commercialised location so its much a case of making your own fun although there are tours of the lake on a steamer and also air tours by float plane which we thought were very good value but then again we are English so it was tremendous value by our standards as we would never have been able to afford it in England. There is a great waterside restaurant open for breakfast, lunch and dinner where the food was relatively inexpensive and really very good especially the peanut butter pie which is a must have. There are plenty water birds which are tame and will let you walk up to them for a photo opportunity. we visited in the summer months but found out there are plenty of winter activities including ice fishing, snow shoeing, and dog sledding and skiing in the winter months. A good all season destination.
