“Perfect for a casual ride”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

This is a mostly paved rail trail from Augusta to Gardiner, about 13 miles round trip; great for walkers and bike riders who aren't looking for speed. Pleasant way to spend some time outside, get some exercise, and then spend a little money on any of the local eateries in Gardiner, Hallowell, or Augusta.

“Great Walk”
Reviewed September 10, 2012

This is probably the most ingenious thing that Gardiner, Hallowell and Augusta did together. What a great way to open things up and get people outside walking around. There are always people out and about, no matter what the weather. Take a bike ride, eat in Hallowell and then come back to Gardiner. It is great!

“Asphalt didn't cut it.”
Reviewed September 5, 2012

I really liked swimming at the Y, walking from Augusta to Hallowell, eating at Slates, poking around the shops, and walking back, but the asphalt base on the rail trail is not kind to my knees and legs, so I stick to nonasphalted trails for walking exercise.

“Great place to go biking”
Reviewed June 18, 2012

It's a great place to go biking - highly recommend it. Would be nice if walkers who walk 3 astride would go single file, when they see a bicyclist coming. Some just don't move. For the most part, everyone on the trial is friendly and does move. This trail is paved the entire way, narrow in spots (well marked) but places to sit as well.
